Oilers have signed 2014 third-overall draft pick Leon Draisaitl to a three-year entry-level contract:

EDMONTON -- The Edmonton Oilers have signed forward Leon Draisaitl, the third overall pick in the 2014 draft, to a three-year entry level contract.

Draisaitl had 105 points (38 goals, 67 assists) in 64 regular-season games for the Western Hockey League's Prince Albert Raiders last season. He also had a goal and two assists on four playoff games.

The six-foot-one, 209-pound centre from Cologne, Germany, has represented his country several times, most recently at the 2014 World Hockey Championship, where he had four points (one goal, three assists) in seven games.

He joins a young Oilers team that includes recent first-overall picks Taylor Hall, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Nail Yakupov.

Really like Draisaitl; but I'm wondering if he can play defense or goal. Not that I have anything against Scrivens or Vasth, I just have no faith at this point that they can do enough to stop the bleeding. Why they haven't traded Eberle/Yakupov in a package to get a bonafide defensemen is beyond me.

Have you ever seen a org that thinks pure talent can win games like the Oilers do? For Van fans who want to rush their draft picks into the NHL they should take a close look. How many times do you see Oiler players lay back waiting for that break instead of bearing down and mucking for a play? It happens all the time. Now this roster realizes that they can get rid of coaches which is a serious red flag.

Perhaps Mac T is changing things as he allowed his coach to tune in the Russian hot shot.
