[Report] Torey Krug recieves a major KHL offer

Recommended Posts

The restricted free agent could be heading overseas for the upcoming season:

A source with knowledge of Krug’s negotiations told CSNNE.com that there’s been a sizable offer made for the defenseman’s services by an unidentified KHL team. The offer, according to the source, included a good chunk of money up front as a signing bonus.

When contacted by CSNNE.com, Krug’s agent, Lewis Gross, wouldn’t confirm, or deny, that the KHL offer existed, and instead offered an apologetic “no comment.”

The KHL offer is certainly plausible given Krug’s high profile after finishing fourth in Calder Trophy voting, and could be part of the KHL’s ongoing determination to cherry pick disgruntled NHL players for the Russian Hockey League. It also wouldn’t be unprecedented this summer as former B’s forward Vladimir Sobotka bolted St. Louis for the KHL after becoming unhappy when the Blues offered him arbitration rather than a big money multi-year deal.

It’s highly, highly unlikely Krug would eschew both the NHL and the Bruins to hop in bed with a volatile KHL outfit that hasn’t always turned out to be the greatest fit for American-born hockey players. Krug doesn't really fit the profile of NHL players that bolt for Russia.

It may be, however, the one very long shot option for Krug if negotiations don’t turn out well between his camp and the current B’s front office that has always treated their players fairly in the past when given the chance.

Otherwise Krug doesn’t hold much leverage in a contract negotiation that hasn’t really been going anywhere over the last few months.

Seems like a rumoured KHL offer is becoming de riguere in the RFA negotiations for talented young defensemen.

Didn't we see Tanev's agent suggest his client was mulling over a KHL offer before they finally agreed to the Canucks' terms?

It's becoming a thing for many players, and I don't doubt the KHL is trying to poach any player without a current contract willing to come over. The likelihood of any non-Russian/European actually accepting though is quite low.

Depending on how much it's for I'd do it. He could make 2-3 times what he can get right now in Boston, TAX FREE.

Players gotta get paid.

Not sure about the "tax free" part, Americans pay tax on their world income, regardless of residency.

He's a smallish, low-on-the-depth-chart one-dimensional power play guy who's barely begun his NHL career.

How 'major' could this offer, if it exists, possibly be?

Tired of ho-hum guys thinking they're all that.

KHL throws money like it's going out of style.

Any KHL team wouldn't think twice throwing him 5+ million a year.

Take a look at what they offered Selanne.

The owners of these teams have to filter their money some how.

Nah JB wont high jack a player from his old buds who are in a desperate situation.. He's their young prized possession

A more realistic target would be the right handed Johnny Boychuk (Still have high hopes for a November deal for Tyler Myers though).. We have Hamhuis+Bieksa (Bieksa shouldnt be 1st pair), Edler+Tanev (perfect 2nd pairing for team and Edler), 3rd pairing has 2 lefties Sbisa and Stanton, Weber+Corrado as 7+8 (both Righties).. Its not a MUST to have players playing proper side, but it helps a lot.. Ask Garrison how he liked RD past cpl yrs.. Stanton's play dropped big time so 5/6 no way, prefer him as a 7th D (which ends up with 60+ games anyway)... Weber as 8 not 7 so Corrado can play Utica 25+ mins all situations along side Sanguinetti even strength, Andersson PK, Tommernes PP

I Dunno why we re-signed Weber when we could have signed Del Zotto cheap, or one of the remaining UFA's for league minimum like McBain (my preference) Tallinder Colaiccavo Foster Morris

Hamhuis-Boychuk/Myers

Edler-Tanev

Sbisa-Bieksa

Stanton-Weber

destroys

Hamhuis-Bieksa

Edler-Tanev

Sbisa-Stanton

Weber-Corrado

or

Hamhuis-Tanev

Edler-Bieksa

Sbisa-Stanton

Weber-Corrado

-What would it take to get Boychuk?

-What would it take to get Myers?

I remember hearing we offered the Anaheim 1st+something else I forget.. maybe Shinkaruk or Corrado.. Anyone know if that was legit?
