ComfyMatter
Sedin/Sedin/Vrbata Burrows/Bonino/Kassian Higgins/Matthias/Vey Sestito/Richardson/Dorsett That leaves Hansen out. Hansen is not a fourth liner. Sestito however is a fourth liner and fits better. He can put up 10 pts. He just needs to stop taking ridiculous amounts of PIMS. And now with Torts gone, the fourth line can now have a bit more ice time. I think our best bet would be to trade Hansen/Higgins for picks or in a package. Benning also stated numerous times that if some of our prospects are ready, then he will make some room. Those prospects are likely Jensen, Horvat, Corrado, Gaunce, and Grenier. I really hope one of them makes it. We need to inject youth. I just don't see anyone else but Hansen being the odd man out. Higgins is a reliable 40 point scorer. Hansen has been through ups and downs for the past two seasons and if there were to be a trade, I think he would be involved. His NTC hurts us though.. If Dorsett costs us a 3rd rounder, then for sure we should be able to get a 2nd rounder Hansen AT LEAST. I don't think Dorsett will be moved. Especially for the price we got him for. He could be moved though, through waivers/send down to minors, always a possibility. What do you guys think of Hansen's value?
Caboose
Just because Benning made a bad trade for Dorsett doesn't mean Hansen's value is increased.

Tom Sestito
Just because Benning made a bad trade for Dorsett doesn't mean Hansen's value is increased. Even though it was an overpayment, Hansen's value is a second.
Keslerific
Just because Benning made a bad trade for Dorsett doesn't mean Hansen's value is increased. The 3rd was definitely a bit of an overpayment, a 4th would have been more appropriate. I guess it's just because Desjardins wanted him, or something like that. I'd value Hansen as a 3rd rounder + a later round pick. I'd still rather keep him though because he's a great 4th line winger.
2009cupchamps
If he rides the pine, I'm ok with that. The one thing we haven't had since 2010-2011 season is depth. Having someone like HANSEN ready to jump in for injuries or pushing the others to earn their ice time is what we need more than a second or third round pick. Depth wins championships. Last year proved if you don't have it you will not do very well. We finally are starting to get it and now people want to trade it away. This is a good thing to have a surplus of NHL calibar players. Hansen may be good depth, but prospect depth is what we lack the most. Stacking up on picks on a deep draft would seem like a good idea. There is a difference between tanking, and trading depth for depth picks for the future. And I would love us to stack up on prospects since our prospect pool has been growing stronger and we need to keep this up. It will help us a lot down the road. I like him, but I also believe his ceiling is a third liner.

I agree having young players that are able to be called up is important, I I believe our prospect pool is a few years away before we can depend on them. We have JENSEN and possibly one other that maybe ready to be called on and it would be position dependent. If we have more than one injury then we would having to many rookies in the line up (you want be the oilers and rush our prospects). HANSEN is versatile, can play either wing. I do agree we need to get younger, but not all at once. We need to make sure they are ready and not expected to be our savior when they are called on. TheSnipeshow91
Just because Benning made a bad trade for Dorsett doesn't mean Hansen's value is increased. You're wrong. Hansen is worth a late 2nd to a bad drafting team much like the Leafs. Why? Because that 2nd round pick will become a 3rd liner anyways. Some might not even crack the NHL. And there's a 5 percent chance that pick will be any better than a 3rd liner.

Having to put Hansen on the 4th means either we have a talented, deep top 9 with no room for Hansen or we have too many 3rd and 4th liners and need to fit them into the roster. I would say Richardson and Matthias are the odd men out given Hansen and Higgins both have NTC. Sestito will be a scratch until games that Willy D wants him in the line-up, and then whomever the 4th line winger du jour is, will be scratched. Dorsett could be in the same boat as Sestito. I don't see a spot for the youth if Sestito, Dorsett, Richardson and Matthias stick around with Roster spots. Jimmy B must have a plan for Dorsett, I have not followed his career but from what I read, we already have one...albeit with less point potential. I wouldn't be surprised to see Tom Sestito gone. To answer your question, I think if Hansen waived his NTC he would not get us a 2nd rounder in the 2015 draft. Maybe a 3rd. It's a deep draft. 2009cupchamps
So your super optimistic has Kassian on the 4th and Jensen on the 2nd? Seriously? JENSEN and KASSIAN shouldn't be competing for the same position. Sure JENSEN is down as a right winger but he shoots left and the left wing is his natural position. If VRBATA does not gel with the twins then BURRROWS would be moved there moving VRBATA down to the second line leaving us short a second line left winger which could be JENSEN SEDIN SEDIN BURROWS JENSEN BONINO VRBATA HIGGINS VEY KASSIAN MATTHIAS RICHARDSON DORSET HANSEN SESTITO this is a possibility if the SEDIN twins and VRBATA do not gel, but I agree I do not see KASSIAN going to the fourth line, third at the most
c00kies
I think he'd get the best value at the TD, especially since more teams would be able to afford him. A 2nd rounder would be terrific for him, but right now a 3rd is realistic.

kloubek
Guys - you all know how this works. For whatever reason, our team manages to wrack up the injuries. I would say that Sestito is the odd man out, but will get playing time on the 4th the moment we have an injury to a forward. Provided, of course, we don't have a prospect who is tearing it up in the minors and won't require to go on waivers once we send him back down. Hansen didn't have a great year (along with the entire rest of the team), but I think he will be very solid for us this year, and would only want to give him up if it means cap space to improve the team elsewhere. ...and lets not forget his contract has a clause.
