whcanuck Posted September 2, 2014 Share Posted September 2, 2014 Hey Guys I know the move was made a while ago, and perhaps there's already a thread on this, but I just wanted to get your thoughts on George Stroumboulopoulus taking over for Ron MacLean as host of HNIC. Personally, I didn't care for MacLean (especially after the Burrows incident) and I really disliked CBCs production the last 5 years or so. I know it's not a new thing for CBC to show bias toward the east and hate on teams like Vancouver and Montreal, but it seems like the panelists and overall feel of the show turned into a Boston and Toronto love-fest. I do realize MacLean's staying on with Don Cherry, and even though I see the value in Coach's Corner, I feel like they should've changed that too. But I understand they can't completely overhaul the show as a lot of viewers have been watching Ron and Don for years and getting rid of both of them would lead to a pretty big outcry from a pretty large demographic. If you like MacLean and the panelists that's fine, everyone's entitled to their opinion. Ron is jaded and can be harsh...he's tried to back pedal at times but once you blurt out your true feelings it's obvious. While honesty and varying opinions are welcome, bias against some in the league is likely unfair - as it is his opinion only and all teams deserve fair coverage. The stuff with Burr crossed the line for me....he's a has been and past his expiry date. If he simply stood his ground and was consistent, I would have had more respect for him. But when Burr got hot, he tried to climb on board his bandwagon and - NO. That ship had sailed. Strombo's a little hyper at times but his passion when he's fully engaged is infectious. I couldn't stand watching George even on Much Music back in the day. His show isn't much better. I'm not sure why but I find him irksome. He irks me. That being said, all things have their time, I think it's time for a more modern person to take over, and I think it would be grapes' time too. I don't like the idea of Strombo being a set up guy for grapes. I think it's time for a new era of HNIC, especially during first intermissions, if Ron is done. It's even funnier since saying you've reported someone is considered trolling. I wouldn't have bothered to look at it (I ignore his posts due to unhealthy Edler hate) if you hadn't replied with the lol after. Back to ignore he goes. But this will be a divisive hire I think. I personally don't think he'll be bad (I like his current show and watch depending on the guest occasionally) and it'll definitely be different. I could care less about anything this guy has to say about anything. I just dislike Strombo because he takes himself so damn seriously, and has his own borderline radical ideas about politics, sports, whatever the topic. It just made me mad when I would watch him on MM as a teen and he'd be preaching shite on air and I was like STFU and play a video already you self important douche.
