Scotland Independence?

The biggest hurdle an independent Scotland would face is the EU. There's a handful of European countries firmly opposed because it would give hope to surging independence movements within. Given how much support you've seen in the form of press and money in the Scotland independence movement from other like minded European movements it logically poses a problem. This problem I think most Scots see. Despite me wanting to see Scotland give the proverbial finger to the UK.. namely England, after seeing the Yes movements messages it doesn't give a whole lot of confidence.

I actually want Scotland to go, but for my own "nefarious" purposes...

Really? Are they going to share royalties on that oil with England?

So on the one hand you argue that Scotland is a welfare state sucking off the teat of England, and on the other hand they are wishing to separate because of economics. This strikes me as somewhat contradictory.

Again, economics plays a role. However, the economy is not an overarching entity separate from society. It is a cog that serves a role within society. I respect the fact that you have strong opinions on how our markets should be governed, but when all you see is markets in every crisis or debate, the. It appears to be leaning towards the fanatical side.

Again, no disrespect intended.

Just read this on CBC:

Local officials said that more than 4.2 million people registered to cast a ballot in the referendum, which represents roughly 97 per cent of all eligible voters. Included in those eligible to vote were people as young as 16.

Results from the 32 local centres are expected to come in through the night, as councils tally up what's expected to be a record number of votes. Final results are expected sometime between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m. ET.

From the polls I've read, the no vote appears to be ahead. However, these could easily be flawed if certain demographics (marginalized) aren't represented.

Looks like this will go down to the wire.

Go Mick Dundee!

Dumb question here: Is the referendum weighted like the Presidential vote in the US? You know, where a majority may not claim victory?

Dundee shifted the vote a full point. Too little too late by the looks of it.

*edit* No, Scotland does not have an electoral college. It's straight out vote totals.
