CRAZY_4_NAZZY
Funny thing is, he played in Niagra with Andrew Shaw and produced much better. He just needs his chance Its just harder for him to crack the roster at the time he was drafted H.Sedin, Kesler, Malhotra, Hodgson, Schroeder all ahead of him...over the years he has been buried low by depth. As for Shaw...Chicago's center after Toews has been a revolving door. So his opportunity came sooner than most expected. I sure hope though Alex gets his chance next season...this team lacks a spark plug type player.
Jack Fig
An overage junior in a given year is a player in junior who is 21 as of Dec. 31. Each team is allowed a few overage players. Plum's reasoning is absolutely correct about why he was not drafted. But he was not an overage junior and could back to junior for his overage year next year if he is not signed to a pro contract. Wrong, an overage is when you are 20 as of Dec.31. Valk is a 1993 birth, his junior career is over.
KassianBeastMode
I don't like cops... are you the grammar police? Also, I see nothing wrong with my grammar. LOL. Should I have used the word 'quite' instead of 'pretty'? Go back to your cave... if you are out and it's sunny, you might see my driving by in my Ferrari. your ferrari hey? lol....uh huh, your toy car doesn't count buddy what is an 'epic valk'? KassianBeastMode
Actually it's... It would also be epic if the educational labour force on important issues came to an end and we finally have an opportunity to advance our grammar skills. "labour force on important issues came to an end" huh?
alfstonker
Valk will have success because he has realised, unlike Schroeder, that when you are small you HAVE to play with attitude. He does that and that is why he deserves a chance. If he goes out and puts it all on the line, on every shift, he might be our small version of Marchand (but in a nice way) "LOL I love the guys who would actually make a decision whether or not to sign this kid based on one game where he scored goals on broken plays." No it wasn't it was his overall work rate skill attitude and performance. He's like Shink, infectious.
ShakyWalton
Hopefully Friesen isn't a scratch... The guy was just under a point per game during the last 20 games last season. and dont forget Cal O"Reilly..he was great last season.
LeanBeef
and dont forget Cal O"Reilly..he was great last season. I assumed he was in that lineup for some reason.. Well if Valk makes it, Utica is pretty clogged
-AJ-
I agree with most and say that we give him a shot in Utica to see how he plays with bigger men.
The Bookie
I assumed he was in that lineup for some reason.. Well if Valk makes it, Utica is pretty clogged Does the AHL have roster limits? Somewhere awhile back I read that they didn't. what I can find right now http://predators.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=439739 http://thrashersprospectsannex.blogspot.ca/2008/11/rules-ahl-roster-limits.html I don't imagine it's bad to have extra guys sitting around down there. Between their own injuries and callups to the NHL, there'll be room to play.

Here is a great read on how AHL rosters are constructed. http://www.uticacomets.com/constructing-an-ahl-roster/

BabychStache
I've seen Valk live several times. He looks out of place until the puck is dropped. Watched him go toe to toe with Griffin Reinhart in the playoffs. He handled himself well and Griffin is outstanding. Their battles were a 50/50 split. He will be an NHLer if given the chance. His work ethic can carry him.
JamesB
Wrong, an overage is when you are 20 as of Dec.31. Valk is a 1993 birth, his junior career is over. Oops. I am not sure why I got confused but I am glad to be corrected. I guess this is one reason Valk was playing with desparation. He really does need a place to play this year. It looks like he will have one. Maybe Kalamazoo, maybe Utica, but I think he has earned a contract with the Canucks organization. At least I hope he has. On the negative front, it is disappointing when your best player at the future stars tournament is an undrafted player. (Maybe Shinkaruk was best, but it is between Valk and Shinkaruk.) Tells us something about Gillis' drafting. Of course, this years top picks were unavailable for a variety of reasons. I think we can expect the Canuck young stars to be a lot better next year. Its a chance for extra ice time that is it. Is a chance to watch a little hockey before preseason. I guess for some it is also a chance to get in a little extra p*ssing and moaning before the season starts. I for one was happy to have some form of canucks hockey back and watch each player get a little closer to form. They need this for that reason alone. They are competing against vets who have been to many camps; they need the leg up. How many dreams do you think they had of getting pinned with the blue ribbon from a prospects tourney as a kid?
