Bo Horvat should be a lock for 3rd line centre

Whats really impressed me from watching the young stars tournament is how well he understands defence. He's like having another defenceman out there. He comes all the way back every shift, gets into position and blocks shooting lanes , while Jensen and Shinkaruk just waited for the puck to come to them. He is knows where to be in every situation in his own zone. He digs out pucks and then gets it to his wingers fast so they can go on offence.

People saying he doesn't have an offensive game don't get that Horvat's offensive game is different than others, and what i mean by that is people say "whats Horvat done he's got no points". Horvat may not get as many points compared to Shinkaruk but he develops the play into a scoring chances. He creates chances for other players and they don't miss. he may not get an assist on the play but he set up the play to develop into a solid scoring chance. And what i mean is he thinks the game so well. He knows when he gives the other player the puck what they're gonna do with it. #Boknows

He will translate into the NHL so well because of his defence and his good defence turns into offence something the canucks as a team couldn't do while under Torts. They couldn't play strong tight defence and then have a good offensive game. Horvat has this he plays great defence which leads to his offence .Now he may not get a point on every play but he contributed to the goal in some way..

Higgins-Horvat-Vey/Hansen to start the season

True. In that case I guess Sestito or Hansen would be the obvious candidates to get scratched.

Actually, both of them. So, if Horvat was to start on the third line for the Canucks, the likely lines would be:

Sedin - Sedin - Vrbata

Burrows - Bonino - Kassian

Higgins - Horvat - Vey

Matthias - Richardson - Dorsett

Leaving Hansen and Sestito both out.

Matthais will play 4th line LW to replace Sestito Vey will go to Utica or replace Hansen 3rd line Rw or hansen will be traded if Vey sticks. Hansen is useless to the team in my mind

Matthias wanted a trade out of Florida b/c he was unhappy with his ice time there. So he comes here and gets relegated to the 4th line anyway? He isn't going to be very happy about that. If we lose Markstrom because we have Miller and Lack and then drive Matthias out of town b/c he still lacks ice time, then the Luongo trade will look even worse that it was.

Benning tried to trade for Matthias when he was in Boston, holds him in high regard. Given the way he played last year, assuming that continues he is going to be on the third line, with alot of PK time and potentially spot PP as a net presence.

He is fast, physical, smart defensively, and has 'decent' hands, nothing great but can likley pot 15-20 in this league all while being defensively responsible. If anyone drops a line it will be Hansen who can be a very effective 4th line winger

Sedin Sedin Vrbata

Burrows Bonino Kassian

Matthias Vey Jensen

Higgins Richardson Hansen/Dorsett

I would say our top six lineup is pretty much set, but in the bottom six, there are some players that can be swapped around with the amount of third and fourth line players we have on this team and some of our prospects that could make the team. It will also be interesting to see if the players can find the chemistry quickly in the season since each line will consist of one newcomer. So really, as Benning said, he wants to roll all four lines making the fourth line more of a 3b line.

Horvat is going to be a good player but he hasn't proven anythin in the NHL yet. Let's see how he does in the training camp and see if he can actually outplay one of Richardson or Vey.

No chance on Richie, I have no idea how fans don't comprehend what that guy brings to the table.

Lack of hockey knowledge I guess....Vey who knows as none of us have seen him play but at this point there are no prospects who are 'better' than any of our vets or even close enough to warrant taking a spot.

Only guy that might be on the bubble vet wise is Hansen as we have many of the same type of player there. Higgins, Him, Matthias, Richie etc...and of that group, he is the most expendible as each of the others has a unique trait they bring to the team (Higgins and Hansen are effectively the same but Higgy is more physical, Matthias is bigger, and Richie is amazing in the circle and a great defensive player himself)....

So if any spot opens its 3w, and that's assuming Vey shows he's ready.

I feel like he`ll be the type of player that`s an unsung hero most nights.

He`ll be the type of player that does all the dirty work, but doesn`t get as much credit.

Morrison / Cassells were very effective centers between Nazzy and Bert and didn't rack up huge numbers. If Bo can be as good as them offensively (50pts) and play a smart defensive game that opens up space for this wingers to take risks, and he uses his size he is a great player...

People are expecting too much too soon from him....I am not down on him at all because I have always been realisitic and felt he's not quite ready yet....

He will be a terrific 2c for us and an adequae 1c if required. I actually see Vey (at least what i've read of him) or McCann being that #1 of the future....

But Bo will have a very very important role...and as I said, if it allows two players like Shinkaruk/Jensen or Kassian to cheat a bit more, and play a more offensive game, he is no less valuable, he's just playing his role...

I hope he can but he needs to contribute more offensively. Now, I don't think he had the best teammates during the young stars tourney for him, Shinkaruk is good but Horvat doesn't fit as well as I would like. Fox, or Jensen are the best teammates for him IMO but at the NHL level I might have him with Kassian and Higgins.
