Who would have to get demoted to keep Shinkaruk in the NHL

We need to hold off this conversation till the end of the year, I'd like to see how the team developes and what our needs are. If burr gets back to form and we have rookies that are low pay ready then he fits fine, you dump Hanson to make some room. If he plays like last year you move him.

I agree i'm thinking more trade deadline when we have a better understanding on our prospects and players like Vey and Matthias.

If all goes well we could see a top 9 line up of:

Sedin-Sedin -Vbrata

Vey(shink) - Bonino - Jensen

Higgins - Horvat - Kassian

That's if our rookies progress the way we want them to, we don't acquire anyone else in a trade or UFA and if Virtanen or Mccann don't come into camp next season and earn a spot.

I don't think we have to demote or trade anyone to get Shinkaruk on the team. Everyone talking about making room for the young guys seemingly don't remember the amount of injuries that happen in 82 games. If we have all our veteran guys playing, and guys playing well in the minors, you can be assured it will mean that we don't have to call up guys like Welsh, Dalpe, Archibald like we did last year. I think we have room for one of Jensen/Shinkaruk/Horvat. I would keep Horvat in junior one extra year so we don't burn off an entry level year

I'd love to see jake and McCann make things difficult for us next year.

i rather have Horvat on the team to develop his defensive side of the games than have him down in the juniors getting lazy or risk getting injured coz everything will become too easy for him.. he'll be playing against 16 and 17 years old.. and he'll dominate them as he should.. i don't know how's that going to improve his game by playing against weak opponent

And Benning is used to cleaning up, Garrison and booth are now gone due to their cap hits. Getting rid of burrows and Hansen frees up 7 million in cap space each year for the next 3 years. It's not just about this year it about the future of this team. Do you really see these two players holding there spot on the team over the pushing rookies for the next 3 season? If were are to trade them it's better sooner than later as Burrows is aging.

It would sure be nice to have the extra cap space especially by next summer when a guy like Bobby ryan looks to hit UFA. Or even to be used to send an offer sheet or available for a trade.

I could be wrong. But I believe someone on here saying that Benning doesn't like using offer sheets. Kind of an honor thing not sure if its true. But it wouldn't surprise me with his character. Can anyone confirm if that is indeed true or if I misread it? Bobby would be a sweet pickup but probably wouldnt help his relationship with Ottawas GM.

Shinkaruk - Vey - Jensen

Matthias - Richardson - Burrows

Hansen

Hansen or Burrows have to go. They're old, slow and nowhere near as skilled as the kids. As far as I'm concerned Jensen, Kassian and Shinkaruk deserve more ice-time than Hansen and Burrows.

That 3rd line would be deadly. I saw the first game vs the Sharks this year and what impressed me about shink is that he just loves to play the game, he loves every stride out there. he isn't working, he is just having the time of his life that type of excitement uplifts a team. I am really liking how this team is shaping up!

That being said I wouldn't be disappointed if shink started in Utica, it would be good for his confidence to light it up there then make the big jump.

Reading through this thread it would seem everyone thinks things are difficult now. It would appear to me that Benning is a man with a plan, and a plan B and plan C. That being, he's already said if prospects earn it over vets they'll have a spot. If you take half a second to think that over, it means he'll trade away said veterans that the prospects outplay.

We for once, have a team that is so deep that players like Horvat and Shinkaruk for example, might not crack the lineup. It's amusing to me that this seems to be causing panic in here.

Guys like Burrows and Hansen will never be "redundant". They both bring many intangibles that a guy coming in with zero NHL experience can't hope to be better at at this point. I've heard Desjardins say about 4 times now that when we win the special teams battles, we win hockey games. Seems to me the focus is going to be on our PP and PK this year. Do you see any one of the prospects being better on the PK than Burrows or Hansen or Richardson? Cuz I don't.

Hansen has scored 151 points in 389 regular season games. A +34 career as well. That is not to shabby for a guy who was drafted in the 9th round. He's a beauty, and when he's on he is excellent.

Burrows has 309 points and is a +122 in 618 regular season games. Not to mention 32 in 67 playoff games. He's a role model on this team for his work ethic on and off the ice, can score goals as we've seen, and is a pain in the @ss for opposing scorers. Who are we going to look to cover top line scorers when it comes to crunch time. Vey? Dorsett? Shink? Jensen? No thank you. Not yet. While his cap hit of 4.5 is slightly painful based purely on his stats, he's still a huge asset to this team. Besides which I'm quite confident he'll put up some good scoring this year if he's able to get his confidence back into his game.

Everyone just needs to wait and see what Benning does, and enjoy the fact we have some solid prospects that are actually worth watching. When the time comes because of injuries, these guys will all get playing time. Other than Horvat, who I believe based purely off his style of play is ready. Add in the fact that he's handcuffed back into junior, he may be the one who makes it.

In any case, I'm very comfortable with the lineup we have slated in the case of sticking with what we have in our players with NHL experience.

Sedin's-Vrbata

Burrows-Bonino-Kassian

Higgins-Vey-Hansen

Matthias-Richardson-Dorsett

Sestito

We have an excellent bottom six. They'll agitate, work hard, and score goals. I don't think we have enough upper echelon talent in our top 6 to out score opponents on a nightly basis, UNLESS we win the special teams battles. If we're able to sustain high percentages in both, by playing good systems and finishing our chances, we could end up in the 6-8 playoff spots.

If he has a bounce back season but this team falters burrows could be a huge asset to deal at the trade deadline. He is the text book playoff warrior.

I could see the ducks knocking at the door for a chance to reunite Kesler and burr on their PK. The penguins could use him as well.

2nd prize for said teams could be Hansen. I'm predicting both will have better years now that torts is gone.

hansen or sestito definitely

Lol. All these guys saying Hansen needs to go now... I mentioned this a few weeks ago on another thread & was ripped by Oldnews & others because I mentioned that Hansen needs to go. lol... Now most are agreeing with me. Funny how a few games will change peoples minds.

Nobody said there wasn't room for 1 rookie. It's trying to fit Horvat, Jensen & Hunter all in there.

No need to keep turning him away and discouraging him when he's clearly made a solid case for being on the team. This is where we'll see if Benning really is serious about his youth movement. Shinkaruk looks really solid and he brings exactly all the characteristics they're looking for on the Canucks: Youth, excitement, energy. Benning promised that if a young guy comes in and performs then they'll make room for him, let's see if that's true

Yeah has played pretty well in 'practice games' where teams are half full of non-Nhlers and pros not even close to giving it there all. It will be Utica for the kid.
