Prayers for his family. We never realize the toll on police officers just from their daily duties.

I'm gonna bet that his job had very little to do with it. If that was the case, there would be dead burger flippers all over the world. Also seeing dead and/or dying people wouldn't do it or we'd have loads of dead doctors and EMT's.

A police officer can see horrific things especially if you're dealing with human trafficking

I know flaming is not allowed but you are ???? idiot. A police officer can see horrific things especially if you're dealing with human trafficking; you're not even worth talking to bye.

I'm not effing kidding you. I used to be a firefighter and I got to see people in itty bitty pieces and in a varying state of the "cleanliness" of the dead.

Are you one of the many ????? sycophants who thinks that cops are just the bee's knee's who are the best most wonderful people around? After working around them let me tell you, that an unhealthy percentage of them are a**holes.

The day that the worst cop of the bunch that I worked around had his patrol car stolen because he left the keys in the car while in a convenience store stuffing his face and drinking coffee, I laughed my rear end off.

The kicker was that the guy was so fat that he couldn't drive with his belt and holster on and where was it, in the open friggin' running car. Fortunately the car was found a couple miles away.

The guy eventually became chief because even though he was terrible, he was a 3rd generation legacy cop.

Now you're not the one worth talking to. When you've been around these people day in and day out then come and impart your great knowledge and wisdom to us. Bye.

If that has to do with me, I feel bad for anybody who feels like they have to take their own life. I just don't place a cop's life over others because he's a cop.

What does that story even have to do with the arguement? You hate cops, cool. Doesn't make you right. You can't just get in the head of the guy. He's seen some fcked up stuff, so have you. Every one deals with it differently. It affects some more than others. No one can know the reasoning behind a suicide except the one who does it, the fact that you're trying to argue about that is asinine

I don't hate cops. I have stories about firemen as well. There are plenty of jacka**es that I worked with.

I'm not arguing the point of why he killed himself. I just responded to a couple of posts. I obviously didn't know him. Some people have better tolerance for things than others do. One thing about cops is that you find the weak ones pretty fast because they usually get stressed out and start hating their jobs not long after they start. This guy was a SGT. He was a veteran and probably saw plenty of stuff and would have left if it got to him to that extent.

Just because you've had bad experiences with certain police officers doesn't mean all of them are like that. Almost every officer I've interacted with has been just and reasonable. Also, about his death, who knows what he might have been going through. I appreciate your service as a firefighter, but you're a little off base.

And

If that has to do with me, I feel bad for anybody who feels like they have to take their own life. I just don't place a cop's life over others because he's a cop.

I never said I placed his life over anyone else's. All men are created equal.

did u really pray for him?

I never said I did. Thanks for the reply though, I always get a chuckle reading your posts in various forums.

"I'm jaded therefore you're wrong about the world."

It has very little to do with being jaded. Having once been a firefighter for a few years, I learned the culture of both firefighters and cops. I enjoyed my time as a firefighter very much, but when people in both professions are held on a high pedestal it seriously goes to their heads and many develop a giant ego.

It seems to me that military people handle the whole hero worship thing better than cops and firefighters because of their discipline and structure whereas discipline in both firefighters and cops consist of, if you make a mistake, how best can we cover this up.

For instance, here's just one example of ego and adrenaline winning over common sense. We had a call once where a guy had coded, but he still had remnants of heart activity on the monitor when we got there. My rig was second in and we were in an adjoining company's district so we were back-up. One of the two two in charge from the main rig was a then-current chief. Long story short they hit the analyze key and the machine recognized it as a shockable rhythm (it was not) and I pointed it out and while I was explaining why he shouldn't shock the guy, he shocked him anyways. That finished off any chance of recovery. Then he went and made jokes about it before he left.

You'd be surprised about the mentality of a decent amount of cops and firefighters. It wasn't just in the district I worked, I've swapped stories with others many times.
