gradin123
Last year Torts kept giving Edler big minutes night after night and kept putting him on the top PP unit. The results were horrible. He was a league worst -39 and he had only 22 points. I hope Willie doesn't fall into the same trap of just feeding this guy minutes just because he is their highest paid DMan. Tonight we see Edler get the big minutes again and it was more of the same. 3 giveaways, 0 points and a -1. Imo, the ONLY reason this guy is being given big minutes right now is because of the large investment the Canucks have in him. His play just does not justify it. I think the best thing the Canucks could do right now as an organization is dump this guys contract and get whatever you can it return. He just shouldn't be given top minutes and he shouldn't be making as much as he does. His play warrants being a 5th or 6th defenseman.
Standing_Tall#37
He is horrible. Plain and simply a bad enough D-man to make any partner look Brutal, it's no fluke they lost as soon as he returned to action.
Alex Burrows 14
And when he doesn't get enough time then everyone will be saying he sucks because he doesn't have 50 points. He needs time to get used to desjardins system. Give it time

ChuckNORRIS4Cup
Detroit wanted him, but Gillis wanted 4 pieces in a return, Detroit thought 3 was high but would of probably budged. "A deal to the Detroit Red Wings was considered, and close enough, but was snuffed when the asking price was too rich for Ken Holland. The Canucks wanted four pieces in return, one of which was a first-round draft pick. But the Wings weren’t even sure about giving up three, so considering four was a non-starter, killing the deal." If it's true, and we're not sure if it is, because that whole passage reeks of speculation, then Gillis really deserved to be fired.

gradin123
Just to add to my point. Last year the Canucks were: 25W 31L and 7OTL in games Edler played + 11W 4L and 4 OTL In Games Edler missed

gradin123
Edler is a liability. However, CDC is overrating on one preseason game. This is all about last year for me. I just saw Edler played 26:07 tonight leading all skaters and I just hope this doesn't become the norm under Willie too.
gradin123
I will when they stop giving that dead horse 26 minutes a game.

Nuxfanabroad
Daniel & 2 Alex's. As it's been stated on these boards, we sink or swim, depending upon whether these vets find their game. Even 2 of the 3 would probably suffice. If they don't, it's 16.5 mill annually, x 3 or 4 yrs, for 2008-2012 nostalgia(or gratitude, as they were mostly underpaid during our best yrs). Standing_Tall#37
Edler is a liability. However, CDC is overrating on one preseason game. I base it on the last 3 seasons, I forgave his fuckups up until he was 25 or so, but hitting the late 20s and still making your D partner look awful is unacceptable. Waive him. So what you're saying is that WD is as bad of a coach as JT (or AV) for giving Edler so many minutes, and that JB is as bad a GM as Gillis as he couldn't/wouldn't get rid of Edler either? I'd give the season a few more games before I start throwing out the coach and GM. regards, G.
Rounoush
I thought Edler was one of the standouts tonight even though most of our guys played slow and disinterested. Once again, stats don't tell the whole story. 3 Giveaways in tonight's game meant you played well.

Robongo
I'll give him one more season before I start to give up on him. This, it's essentially his first game, significant rust is to be expected. He did continue his habit of making boneheaded plays but you have to think his confidence is still pretty low atm. This game is all about confidence. Although he may never live up to the expectations in this market, he likely will still turn it around enough to be a solid contributor and a good no 3.
