A good candidate for the NHL 2015 Draft

Personally, I think he'd be a good selection since an all around offensive player and is listed at 6'ft and 197 lbs.

Born and raised in the Amsterdam, knowing the Dutch he'd probably be around 6'1+

(I know this since I'm half Dutch ;) )

Anyways, we're lacking in right-wing depth and he'd definitely appeal to the Dutch market.

I love this kid, all he wants to do is score goals and goals. His teammates always want to give him the puck, he has a shot with the best of them he's not small either and looks actually pretty big out there. He has some nifty hands, can skate in and just wire the puck top corner. If he can polish his offensive game and complete his overall game I think he can go top 10.

Natural goal scorers aren't easy to get in the NHL.

our 2nd or if he falls our 3rd

Can't see him falling that far.

+ 1 Man, if we don't fall far enough to get Kylington, Barzal, or Konecny, I hope we get Sprong. The kid is just what we need to bolster our RW depth.

I have been following Sprong too. I really want us to draft him next year. He's got pure talent, goal scorer as well as great playmaking ability. He's got decent size standing at 5'11ish(nearly 6'0) 185 pounds. He will most likely be available at where we are picking this year. He's flashy, but his defensive game needs work. He's minus 10.

Really want us to get this guy.

For what it's worth, the Eliteprospects scouting report on Sprong says this:

"A prolific scoring winger who possesses an elite-level skillset: has dynamic skating ability, is a creative passer, and has incredible puckhandling ability. While he is offensively dominant, he is also defensively responsible. A very hard working player who strives to improve all aspects of his game. Absolutely electric."

That's interesting since I have noticed that Sprong hasn't been the most defensively reliable. However, he's been doing a little bit better by coasting along the neutral zone a little less than before.

From what I hear, Sprong considers himself Canadian and is awaiting a Canadian passport so he could represent Canada. Was kind of hoping he'd take more pride in his Dutch roots so he could hopefully help grow a market in the Netherlands. :sadno:

But I guess in the words of a wise hockey player,

"It is what it is." :bigblush:

I know that "Patrick Kane" comparison has been thrown around a lot in these boards but from the scouting reports I've heard, he's like a shoot-first kind of Patrick Kane.

From the games I've watched, he kind of reminds me of a Phil Kessel, so a "Shoot-first" version of Patrick Kane isn't too far off. He's definitely an exciting talent, one thing that intrigues me would be how fast he could carry the puck through the neutral zone and get a shot off.

Also, according to Eliteprospects and the QMJHL website, Sprong is 6'0 and 192 lbs. at the age of 17. So I wouldn't be too worried about him being an "undersized" player.

I'd be inclined to trust what you've noticed over what Elite Prospects has posted. That site almost always seems overly optimistic to me, almost to the point of reminding me of the words "Where seldom is heard a discouraging word" from the old song "Home on the Range."

Yeah, I actually have to agree. But you'd like to think that something like a player's defensive game is important enough not to fabricate/embellish. It's one thing to say a bad defensive player is "adequate/average defensively" but this "scout" has actually gone and said he is "responsible".

That being said, if they say this but you actually, physically, see him not play well defensively. Well, I'd take your word for sure.

Well I'm by no means a professional scout so I just report on what I've observed through watching him. But yeah thanks guys

Anyway, his defensive game has a lot left to be desired but in my opinion it has been improving. I actually see him going back into his own zone instead of coasting along the blue line for a break out pass. That's not to say he doesn't do it anymore, but he's definitely being more defensively responsible than he was before.

But a great player nonetheless, kid really knows how to hold onto the puck like Patty Kane and W. Nylander (Now we have a chance at having a Nylander type player AND Jake Virtanen hehehe.) B)

By the way, I'm a fan of your prospect videos that you post on these boards Canucks1219! Keep up the good work, maybe you'll be doing some videos on our 30th overall pick, Daniel Sprong once the 2015-2016 season starts? :bigblush:

Daniel Sprong and Nikita Korostelev

Both my favorite prospects currently in our draft

Reach.

Absolutely. There's still the potential of them playing themselves securely into the early teens (11-15) but as of right now, taking into account how the Canucks are playing, I'd say we have a pretty good shot at at least one of them come June.
