ItsMillerTime
The Minnesota Wild signed defenseman Jonas Brodin to a six-year contract extension, the team announced Sunday. Financial terms were not disclosed, but Elliotte Friedman of "Hockey Night in Canada" reports the contract is worth $25 million Brodin, 21, has an assist and a plus-5 rating in two games this season while averaging 22:25 minutes per game. The No. 10 pick of the 2011 NHL Draft, Brodin finished fourth in Calder Trophy voting in 2012-13, and has 10 goals and 31 points with a plus-8 rating in 126 NHL games. "We are very excited to get Jonas Brodin signed through the 2020-21 season," Wild general manager Chuck Fletcher said. "He is one of the premier young defensemen in the NHL and has played a huge role on our team since entering the league as a 19-year-old. We're confident that his game will continue to evolve in all areas and he will be a valuable part of our core for years to come. Jägermeister
He's going to be one of the best defenceman in the NHL over the next 15 years. Great signing.
2SKATES1STICK
He's going to be one of the best defenceman in the NHL over the next 15 years. Great signing. He's super good, but I dunno about being in the same league as the PK's and the Karlsson's.
Plum
Pretty good deal if he continues to improve his game. I don't think he has the same potential as the top defenceman from the 2012 draft but Dougie Hamilton and Brodin will be the top 2 defenceman for the 2011 draft. KingAlex
The Minnesota Wild signed defenseman Jonas Brodin to a six-year contract extension, worth $25 million Tanev isn't going to be happy about that.

Guest Dasein
He's going to be one of the best defenceman in the NHL over the next 15 years. Great signing. He could be, but it's far from being a sure thing. One of the best in the NHL is highly unlikely. He does have a great mentor in Ryan Suter so you never know though. Karlsson, Hedman, OEL, Kylington (from this year's draft), etc all potential greats and all Swedes. Brodin might not even be one of the best Swedes - I think right now he's 2nd tier with Klebom, Rundblad, Edler etc. Tanev isn't going to be happy about that. Huh? 4 years younger than Tanev and he already has a better career high in goals and points. And you're probably not going to see Brodin get outmuscled by Gaudreau.. If Tanman had Brodin's upside, he would have gotten a long-term deal by now. EDITED: Mistakenly included Maatta though he's Finnish!
Jägermeister
Remember, he is only 21 and has 30 points in 124 games. He's been logging a lot of ice time on a good team since he was 19. He might not have the "flash" of Subban or Karlsson, but he will be more steady on the backend than either of them, and will likely be able to contribute 40-50 points a year in his prime. Honestly reminds me of a poor mans Lidstrom in the way he handles the game, he's gonna be a rock.

Lancaster
Sad to hear that he's quitting hockey. Resigning from a team must have been a tough decision.
CanuckFanForever1123
I love this deal. He's really defensively responsible, with a fair amount of offensive upside. Definitely a good deal, and at a reasonable cost.
selkirkcraig
is this the way contracts go these days? where's the bridge contract? i'm all for the stars getting the bucks but this guy is only 20-21 years old. not that i'm bemoaning the wild spending this much. it just means they will have less to sign other players, which is good for us.
