johngould21
"New NHL working as intended." - Gary Betteman ...and that other hockey hotbed, named Arizona, continues to bleed. Estimates of $25M-$35M last year. Gary, Gary, Gary!
TheXFactor
Just checked in on the game... i'm not a FLA or OTT fan but its depressing to see the place so empty. Actually the game is looking pretty entertaining so far.
Keslerific
Wow, that's the worst I've ever seen it for the Panthers. That team needs to be relocated badly.
Brick Tamland
As much as Lu wanted to play in Florida I bet a part of him misses all the excitement hockey brought around Vancity. I wonder how he will feel when his team moves to Seattle...
Dazzle
"$ 25 per seat per game, as per loyalty program, for lower bowl seats." I'd pay that to watch the last place Canucks, at that price they would still sellout. I think you'd change your tune if the Canucks bombed for ~10 years. When was the last time they made the playoffs? You'd probably realize that your hard-earned money is better somewhere else.
Brick Tamland
What surprises me the most out of that picture is that people in the upper bowl don't ask the ushers if they could move down to the lower bowl because of the poor attendance. Those people don't know where they are.
Dazzle
"New NHL working as intended." - Gary Betteman Yes, because the lockout clearly stopped owners from handing out long-term, expensive contracts that owners were supposedly outraged about. Bettman isn't going to be going soon but this really isn't his fault. He's only doing the work that the owners want him to do. If he doesn't do it, another person will. Also, NHLPA is equally guilty of this. Both sides don't truly stand for what they were harping about during the strike. In the end, it's all about money. Dazzle
1500 apparently Where did you hear that from? Anyhow, that sounds somewhat accurate based on the pic and when I was watching the game - it was embarassingly empty.
ShakyWalton
Roughly 2000 people maybe ? Thats really embarassing for the league..I would say there is about 500..not 5k people there.
brilac
Wow, that's pretty bare. So many empty seats.
bieskajuice
I wonder if they yell Luuuuuuuuuuu when he makes a save, but with a crowd like that Luongo would barely be able to hear them hehe
JimLahey
@GeorgeRichards: #FlaPanthers announced attendance tonight: 7,311 ... Sets record for lowest in franchise history (10,063 v Carolina, 2007) -- #Sens

Sets record for lowest in franchise history (10,063 v Carolina, 2007) -- #Sens Wow, then at least 40% of those seats should be filled, going by the picture it looks way less than that, maybe 20% filled. 2SKATES1STICK
HAHA I caught the end to the game. Wow... The panthers were bad. Still, only 1 goal game and I had to snap a screenshot of the lower bowl. How does this franchise exist? It was sweet to see Luongo make some HUGE saves to end the period, but wow that team is spinning in circles and making such bad decisions. Kulikov looked worse than Edler did last year. -DLC-
Truly sad. Wonder if this is how Lu envisioned things? While this place is a fishbowl it's got to sting to be in an empty arena. Wow. That's the kind of crowd we get down at the ice at warm ups.
DefCon1
Vancouver is not a very big hockey town. It's a Canucks town. Huge crowds don't come to the Giants games. More people watch football and soccer. It's also too warm and wet for outdoor hockey. The city might have a long history in the game but right now I wouldn't say hockey brings excitement to Vancouver. You must be joking, right? How about the Olympics hockey? Vancouver is a town for major league sports, they are not a minor league town. That maybe the reason why not too many people go to Giants game when there is an NHL team to follow. Most Vancouverites follow mainly the major leagues like NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL and Premier League etc. I would say that the majority of fans are Canucks fans.
