What's our biggest strength/weakness?

Gretzky to Lemieux

I really like the depth that benning and linden have made to our forward group. I think thats our biggest strength. The twins and Vrbata are looking REALLY good together. I think they could be one of the best lines in the league this year. our 3rd and 4th line have looked decent but im really worried about our 2nd line. Burrows is working hard but bonino and higgins hasnt contributed much. Miller and Lack are gonna be Luongo/Schneider 2.0 IMO. There just a bit worse, which means our goalies should be set. I've always thought we lack a 5/6 tough defensemen for many years. Bieksa, Hamhuis, Edler, Tanev and Sbisa are our top 5 D, but i dont know whos our 6th gonna be. I know that we had to trade garrison for cap space, but imagine a defensive lineup of Bieksa-Edler, Hamhuis-Tanev, and Sbisa-Garrison. Stanton is ok for a 6th D but I think that we could do better. Even benning said that hes looking for more competitiveness and depth on defense. To sum up, forward depth, defense, and goaltending is our strength while the second line and defensive depth is our weakness. What do you guys think?

Disagree that we have offensive depth. How many goals have we gotten from someone not named Sedin or Vrbata?

I'm honestly hard-pressed to point out a strength at this point, because we really haven't faced any tough competition. I suppose you could call the top line a strength, but again, they haven't had to face a really tough defense. All I know is that the Oil got lit up by two other offenses, before facing the Canucks last night.

Time will tell, but I think it's too early to call strengths or weaknesses yet.

The second line looks inadequate. Yes, it's only a couple games in, and they haven't found any mojo yet, but not doing much business against Calgary/Edmonton is not a good sign. It only gets more dire against the better teams we're about to face. More defensive depth would be nice, too.

I'm really not liking our D group. I may stress defense more than some, but this group isn't going to cut it. We don't have a #1 guy that can eat up 30 minutes and play in all situations. We don't have a PMD. We only have one guy that can hammer the puck. Edler is as inconsistent as it gets, Hammer and juice are starting their decline. I don't want to say this, but Sbisa just isn't good. Stanton is a solid 5/6 guy. The only thing we have in our back end we can look forward to is Tanev.

Stanton has injury issues constantly

I don`t see how Sbisa is better than Stanton. Stanton`s cheap, isn`t prone to stupid mistakes in his own end, and stands up for his teammates. He should have been in the top 4 last year and is criminally underrated on here.

Seeing as the forwards and goalie(s) have been playing relatively well so far I'd have to go with defence. It would be nice to have some higher end talent there and a little bit more depth. That said, it's hard to complain... the Senators have one of the best offensive D-men in the league but as a group are attrocious defensively.

I feel like our problems are still exactly the same as last year. We have no offense threat outside of our first line and they are being relied on too much. We've been listening to preaches about being a 4 line team and I just don't see it. The first line is not just being used heavily on PP but also in more defensive/ protect the lead situations. Who was on the ice last minute in a one goal game against Calgary and Edmonton? The Sedin line. I don't see faith from the coach in our other lines not only offensively but defensively as well which is even more concerning.

I love Higgins hope he's Canuck until the very end, but we need a legit top 6 LWer. We have a 1st line and three 3rd lines. Not bad but not cup contender either.

I love higgy but I think it's best to trade him, I can't see him as a fit for the second line. I'd rather bring up a kid like Jensen if we can't trade for a second line winger. Bur is doing great, bonino is not incredibly noticeable but is doing fine and would improve with better line mates.
