Vancouver - Carolina (Proposal)

Recommended Posts

Simple trade really

Matthais and 2016 4th for Carolina's 2015 - 2nd.........fair trade

I think it is reasonable. The reason I think so, is that if I changed the trade to this, it wouldn't be

Matthais and 2016 4th for Carolina's 2015 - 3rd...........Van gives too much

This get's us a decent 2nd, that we wouldn't get otherwise....we hold onto it! We have no 2015 - 3rd

I stated before.

Trading with Carolina for picks is a reasonable idea. BUT that will only be in the event Skinner goes down and Carolina needs to do something to maintain some kind of semblance of respectability.

Swapping picks and players will work be it in 2015 or 2016 as either pick we obtain be it first round could very easily be top 10.

Say a pick of Carolina 2015 or 2016 1st and Degiuseppe for Van 2015 or 2016 1st (pick and choose which years pick goes where) Corrado, Hansen/Matthias and a random throw in like Mallett or Zalewski or something (yes I know value issue)

That is a possible deal that could be had, as we are 6 games in to the season and Carolina has as much chance of hitting mediocre mid pack status as we do this early and if its our 2015 pick for their 2016 pick it's still a solid deal for us as they're without question rebuilding even with two healthy Staals

Flame away, go ahead as we all know a pick 6 games in to the season has dynasty potential right cdc

I understand where you are going with this, but I think it holds too much risk for Carolina, mostly because it is somewhat unknown. That is kind of why I suggested a trade involving a slight up grade of a lower pick.

I think your idea works, but I see Carolina about 3 or 4th from the bottom, and the Canucks 9th or 10th from the bottom, I don't see Carolina wanting to give up that possible position in either year. Not even sure the Canucks do. Where as Matthais is young enough to be a team player for 6 or 7 years, which is worth moving a little.

Got a question for you though Warhippy......I think at the deadline, we could move one more player, if we are hunting for another mid 1st to mid 2nd pick, who do we move and to where?

I see Markstrom, Richardson, Higgins, maybe even a revived Edler......not trying to answer your question, just wonder your thoughts

Higgins, Hansen, Matthias, Dorsett on forward

Bieksa, Hamhuis, Sbisa and or Edler on defense.

Any combination of them will be gone or should be gone by the deadline and I believe at least a few of those players alone or packaged could get us another couple of picks in the first 3 rounds maybe a prospect with a boom bust chance at NHL success

Sorry everyone, if I got so far of topic on my last post. Would anyone like to comment on my proposal. I think it is subtle, and improves our drafting choices substantually. Is it fair or overpayment or underpayment for that matter? I think Carolina is close to the bottom, for their 2nd would be 33 to 35 overall. Which would mean a almost first round pick.

id make that move. would try to get tlusty maybe aswell to expand deal. He could be a solid add for stronger scoring depth in top 9

trouble with me usually, is that I try and do big trades too much, and CDC doesn't usually like that a whole bunch, so I tried to keep this as a simple clean trade, I was waiting to see if my vaues were right and wondering if it should be a 3rd instead of a 4th.....I think the values right????

On your suggestion of Tlusty. So if we kept the first trade simple, what would be an asset that would aquire him....don't know much about him. I will be looking though......

I'd for the deal for a 2nd.

I'm valuing Matthias at less than you, though, simply because he will be an UFA at the end of the season and since he came to Vancouver hoping for a larger role-which it seems is not likely to happen for him, I expect his intention is to go to free agency next summer. If Carolina expects to use him as a top-6 forward they might take him figuring their chances of signing him are good.

Management will have a better idea, of course, of the chances of signing him, but if they're low, then once mid-season arrives I'd favour letting Matthias go for an early 2015-3rd rounder and promoting whomever seems best developed from Utica.

With everyone producing with semi respectable numbers to start the AHL season i would echo this, i don't see Matthias being a Canucks past the trade deadline.

Carolina does have massive injury issues at centre ice.

But should Carolina get a rental?

Really, unless you pop a legit long term solution in front of them, I have no idea why they even engage the suggestion. What they want and need is a Bonino or a Horvat (if they thought he was ready). Of course the cost is much higher, but so be it...

OK point taken, but here is my reasoning.

Carolina gets a big Center Iceman and a 2016-4th. Matthais although a rental, is looking to stick somewhere. In this new NHL players can go UFA and never get back into the league, and although Matthais is NHL calibre, it's not like he is pushing for 2nd line duties. If he was I wouldn't be putting the 4th in there, and if he was that good, he wouldn't be considered in trade talks, generally.

What you would think of putting in a 3rd pick instead? I think it would be massive over payment, as a rental or anything else. Your right. Carolina is short at center right now because of injuries, this stems the tide until their players get healthy, and gives them first crack at him, "IF" they want him back.

If they want to keep fans in the chairs, they have to bring someone in......in saying that

What about Richardson and a 5th? Still a UFA, but more versatile......I don't know....I want their 2nd...any suggestions?

Not ready to give up on Matthias just yet, and we don't know how good or bad Horvat/Gaunce would be. At the least we still need a 4th line center this season, and someone who can play up in the lineup in case we have injuries. Imagine if we traded Matthias away and then Bonino and Richardson get hurt. It's happened before.
