BeefGormley
Title says it all. I mean I don't know. I'd love to go after a guy like Pilon, or Jeremy Roy. But then there are other guys like Barzal, Konecny, Sprong, Marner, Nicolas Roy etc. In my opinion, I'd rather go after a dman because we don't have any stud d-man in our system and we lack d depth. Instead of going after good d-man and giving up half our farm, lets just draft a stud d-man. Thoughts?

awalk
^ What he said. That said, would be very nice if a stud d-man fell to us as the BPA in round

Gstank29
We need to add defence depth but with that being said. A solid defenceman is easier to find in the later rounds. (Weber, Lindstrom, Keith, Etc)But I say if theres a forward who is a "can't miss top 6 player" you have to take him otherwise , it will be a defence man,

roland
Always a foward in the first round unless it's a Shea-Weber type of player. Good d-man can be picked up in later rounds
Herberts Vasiljevs
If Werenski or J. Roy is available past pick 10, pick 'em up.
TheRussianRocket.
With our 1st round pick, has to be either a dman or a right winger. Biggest position weaknesses in our prospect pool by far. Only way I see us not taking a RW or D is if a top proapect falls right into our laps and the only option would be to pick him up.

thad
Depends who's available IMO. If we're top ten, BPA for sure. The players are too good to go off the board and grab a dman lower down the list. The teens are usually pretty wide open, should have a few players from different positions that are toss ups. I'd aim for a dman there. In the 20s look for your shinkaruk/McCann type slip. If no surprise slip, take the best dman
Devoted
Always a foward in the first round unless it's a Shea-Weber type of player. Good d-man can be picked up in later rounds Shea Weber himself was a 2nd round pick. BPA is always the way to go. Trade assets for positional needs when the time comes, because a need today doesn't necessarily equate to a need in 2-5 years when those picks have matured into NHL players. Warhippy
If we have a top 10 pick it's a huge toss up as we've a chance of drafting a franchise winger or C/RW player after Hanifin there's not many can't miss D men, and if we can get a couple fo extra picks in the 2nd through 4th rounds i'd rather see us load up on our D there as opposed to in the first round. I honestly see Benning and Linden doing everything in their power to move some pieces around the trade deadline or draft day to move up or garner extra picks in the first 3 rounds. CanuckGAME
This draft is full of stud forwards. We could get our best offensive player since the Sedins in this draft. I think we should take a forward in the 1st round then start plucking dmen up from round 2 and on.

Devoted
Shea Weber, Subban, Keith,...Lidstrom all 2nd or later round picks This illustrates the complexity of assessing the talent and potential of 18 year olds and the science of drafting the best player available (obviously fraught with danger) I remain a proponent of drafting the player that is assessed to have the highest skill level/ceiling rather than sticking to a formula that sees a team draft, for example, a forward in round 1, a dman in round 2, a goalie in round 3...
