Vancouver, B.C. – Vancouver Canucks General Manager Jim Benning announced today that the Canucks have recalled defenceman Bobby Sanguinetti from the AHL Utica Comets.

Sanguinetti, 26, has played 14 games with the Utica Comets this season. He has collected seven points (2-5-7), ranking tied for third in team scoring. The Trenton, New Jersey native has appeared in 45 NHL games with the Carolina Hurricanes and New York Rangers, collecting six points (2-4-6).

The 6’3”, 190-pound defenceman signed with Vancouver as a free agent on July 1, 2014.

This guy is an absolute stud. Never got a good chance to show his skills in Carolina when their defensive pool was deep and he's been burried in the minors for a while but he'll finally get the shot he deserves now.

I'd like to see what he can do playing with Hamhuis:

Edler - Tanev

Hamhuis - Sanguetti

Stanton - Bieksa/Weber

If Bieksa is good to go (which is probable),

Sanguinetti is likely taking Weber's spot in the lineup.

Or sitting in the press box like Jensen did vs LA after being called up as insurance.

Seems like he really hasn't got a fair chance in the NHL, he's only played 45 NHL games.

I don't know much about him but he's consistently put up points in the AHL including 50 points in 60 games one season for the Checkers. That's pretty impressive, especially as a defenseman.

The Canucks coaching staff is good with players, hopefully they can get the most out of him.

Knew he'd be up here sooner than later. Benning cleverly "hid" him like he did with Markstrom after that one non-broadcast exhibition game. Expecting he'll at least get a short audition, and hopefully into Edler's spot on the PP as a RH shot. As has been mentioned, despite being 26 he's played less than 50 NHL games so has never had a full run.
