-Vintage Canuck-
Canadiens acquire defenseman Bryan Allen from the Anaheim Ducks, in return for forward Rene Bourque: MONTREAL – Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin announced Thursday the acquisition of defenseman Bryan Allen from the Anaheim Ducks, in return for forward Rene Bourque. Allen, 34, recorded one assist in six games thus far with the Ducks in 2014-15, averaging 18:12 of ice time per game. He recorded four shots on goal, 11 hits, 10 blocked shots and served four penalty minutes. He missed 14 games due to a lower-body injury. Since he first joined the NHL back in 2000-01, Allen has recorded a total of 135 points (29 goals, 106 assists) in 716 regular season games. He scored five game winning goals. The 6'05'' and 223 lbs forward also served 837 penalty minutes and displays a +28 plus/minus differential. A native of Kingston, Ontario, Allen was selected in the first round, fourth overall, by the Vancouver Canucks at the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. In his NHL career, he played for the Canucks (216 games), the Florida Panthers (284 games), the Carolina Hurricanes (101 games) and the Ducks (115 games). Allen was selected to the OHL First All-Star Team in 1999. He won a silver medal with Team Canada at the 1999 World Junior Championship. The 32-year old Rene Bourque registered two assists in 13 games with the Canadiens thus far this season, averaging 12:10 of ice time per game. The Lac La Biche, Alberta native played in a total of 141 career regular season games with the Canadiens since joining the team in a trade with the Calgary Flames on January 12, 2012. http://canadiens.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=740146
Herberts Vasiljevs
Really? Allen has been playing like he would be pretty instrumental for the Ducks during a cup run this season. Bourque is just about as lazy as they get... Edit: I guess Anaheim has some solid depth on the back end when healthy perhaps, but Allen was darn good insurance for them. Honeydew
Getting grittier on the bank end for the habs, makes sense as they need the blueline help rather in the forward department. Sheds a bit of capspace for the habs this year too getting rid of Bourque's contract. Ducks get more depth scoring hopefully Bourque could find his scoring touch again and light it up but not against the Canucks please :D
TheRussianRocket.
DEADLINE TODAY OR SOMETHING!??!! ..jokes aside, good deal for Ducks & Habs. Ducks have an abundance of dmen and need wingers. Bourque could mesh well potentially and likewise, Habs could use some backend depth. Good trade for both teams.
TheFastOne21
Allen was playing well this season for ANA. Meanwhile, Bourque cleared waivers in MTL. Interesting, if Bourque wakes up he can be a good player.
NatureBoy
Don't get this trade from Anaheim's perspective....
Lockhart
Would have liked to see Allen come back here. Him and Bieksa would have made a tough 3rd pairing.
theminister
This is odd that the Ducks didn't just claim him off of waivers. Allen had some value and they aren't close to the cap ceiling at all. It must mean funds are tight in Anaheim, I'm guessing.
Lui's Knob
I don't get this deal for ANA....Bourque was on WAIVERS??? for free? Allen is a 5-6 Dman with size which helps the Habs ...makes no sense for Anaheim unless another deal is coming.
CRAZY_4_NAZZY
Montreal's age on the blueline keeps going up Markov(35), Gonchar (40), Allan (34), Weaver (36) Gilbert (31), Emelin (28) PK the only one 25 under. They must have not liked what they have saw from Tinordi and Beaulieu essentially replaced by Allen and Gonchar within a matter of weeks for the short term. They look better than last years defence, I see them making a another trade for a winger, and I see them going all in.

Most of those contracts expire this year gives montreal depth right now, gives the young guys more time to play big minutes in the minors, and opens up space for them next season. Seems pretty smart actually
luongotv
Seems like both teams add depth to their respective positions. Although, not sure why Anaheim would want Bourque...
Big Time
I think Anaheim was still sad and depressed about losing Sbisa. They're clearly on the rebound and opted for something new as opposed to something they knew. This never neds well.

Steen
I like Allen's game. Could be a good trade if Bourque plays to his potential.
qwijibo
Plus montreal got rid of two players that no longer fit in but had term left on their contracts and got two guys they can use this season whose contracts are both expiring

Master Mind
Unless the Ducks are making another trade, this makes no sense for them. Montreal on the other hand just got a great deal.
