Elliotte Friedman on HNIC:

The Canucks are still awaiting full information and are not commenting. Another MRI is still to be taken. Word is it is a severe lower body injury and Hamhuis will miss an extensive period of time.

Report: Dan Hamhuis’ injury is significant, but not season-ending

The Vancouver Canucks lost defenseman Dan Hamhuis to a significant lower-body injury that will sideline him for months, not weeks, according to PHT’s Dhiren Mahiban.
One bit of promising news amid this grim update regarding the 2014 Canadian Olympic team member: Mahiban reports that it isn’t expected to be a season-ending injury.
Hamhuis, 31, seemed to suffer his injury when his skate might have gotten caught in a rough spot in the ice. He was injured early on against the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday, as he only logged 19 seconds of ice time in that game. Here’s video of the unfortunate moment:
Hamhuis has seen a decline in ice times and his possession stats haven’t been as impressive as usual this season, but this could still be a tough loss for a Vancouver team that’s off to a pretty impressive start in 2014-15.
The team recalled Frank Corrado in his absence.

Well damn. This really sucks. I initially thought Hammer tweaked his groin or something but clearly it's something much bigger than that.

Hope the team cruises on and doesn't make a desperation trade for at least the first few games. Evaluate how the team does as is and get guys to step up. Bruins are in a much worse situation defensively and are finding ways within the organization. From what I recall, Tanev was brought up in an almost similar circumstance and look at what he's become.

Wish we picked up Schlemko off waivers. No charge and could've helped us a lot but that ship has sailed now. Hope Corrado/Sanguinetti can show some promise and develop in the absence of Dan and man, will we need guys like Juice/Weber/Edler to pick their game up. Honestly the worst possible player to get injured for us. Oh well, every team endures the same thing and this is where we will see where our team is at. :(

Youch. There goes the season. Thinking of you Hammer, tough to be injured around the holidays and not playing the game you love.

It was a huge mistake trading Garrison this summer, now we're gonna see how huge. This team was only carrying 7 dman this season, when they've carried 8 for like six years or so. And really only have 1 quality d prospect on the farm (Corrado). They are clearly gonna need another d-man.

Sbisa/Weber playing the easiest mins out of the dmen. Big difference is team is getting out shot with Sbisa on the ice, but not with Weber. So I hope Weber gets the call to move in top 4 vs Sbisa.

I don't think canucks should trade any of there future prospects for a D-man unless its a stud;if it is a stud you know they will be trading away a jensen or shinkurak. Lets becareful what we wish for, because Canuck's were never projected to be this high;just hope they can keep at a 500 pace, they will easily slide into the playoffs and hammer will be back.

Also, I hope they give bobby sanguietti a chance to make a name for himself in the NHL.
