Amongst the 10s of thousands of prospect threads on here, I noticed there wasn't one dedicated to Mitch(ell) Marner of the London Knights. He is an undersized winger with elite level skill. Marner started the 2014-15 season relatively slowly but his point production absolutely skyrocketed in the latter half of October. Marner displays such an elite level skillset that it is not out of the question for him to be considered a top-10 pick in this year's draft despite being an undersized player.

Gonna be a good NHL player, I wish we could land him. You can already see his work ethic is there in that little clip (after his hit, comes back very hard on the backcheck)

Prior to the season (before we started so well) and through the first little bit of the OHL season, I thought we could land him in the early teens if we happened to be very lucky. Our RW depth for top-6 talent is basically just Jensen and Kassian. Jensen has improved steadily playing in the AHL but Kassian, albeit still relatively "young", is not really a lock for a top-6 spot just yet. Marner would at least be insurance of an elite-level player on the right side.

Sadly (sort of), we got off to a terrific start and Marner absolutely exploded for points pushing him securely into the top-10.

I doubt we'll finish low enough to land Marner, but if he drops due to his size (like Shinkaruk) then I'd definiately pick him up.

I've watched the Knights when Horvat played for the Knights (I still watch them), and I've got to say that Marner's hands are unreal. I'd go as far as

to say that they're the best London has had since Patrick Kane.

I'm pretty hyped about this kid, and yes, even more so than Sprong ;)

I love him, he's going top 10 for sure, top 5 if he keeps this up or even close to this.

Marner has great natural skill, he has great vision, very fast and he has a hard, quick shot. He's just so good, reminds me of Giroux, overall he is great offensively. He almost always finishes his chances.

I've heard that this draft will be like 2010 with alot of Americans in the 1st round but I think it will have alot of Canadians in the 1st round. Other than Eichel and Hanifin, all I see is guys like Marner, Strome, Merkley, Barzal, Crouse, Konecny, Sprong, Roy, Beauviller, Harkins.

What are you talking about? Do you think we're getting a pick around 15?

I think it's early enough in the season to say a pick at 15 is possible. It's unlikely that we get the pick, and even more so to have Marner drop that low, but it's early and there are enough variables in the game+season.

Think the Canucks will be picking between pick #20-30 this year so think this guy will be long gone.

That means having the best regular season record out of all of the teams knocked out of the opening round of the playoffs. I think we'll eventually regress closer to the middle (standings-wise) but it's entirely possible.

Have to see if this team is real after the 50 ish game mark or so and if they are a contender I'm sure Benning will try to add a piece or two without mortgaging the future and sacrificing any of the group in the pipeline they are trying to fill up.

The Canucks need d anyways those. I would start targeting quality d-men, bonus if they are a right hand shot that would be available from #15-25 in the first round this year.

Marner with a PP goal so far against the Erie Otters. London trails 2-1. About 10-ish minutes left in the game.

London tied it and has sent it to a shootout. Marner with 1 point (a goal) and -1 on the night. Marner did not score on his shootout attempt as the Knights lose 3-2 to the Otters.

He'd definetly be worth the pick up if he falls to us. Kid has tons of skill and potential.

Absolutely. He's playing like a lock in the top-10 so it's quite unlikely. I would go nuts over having his killer talent on the right wing.

My backup plan (for a longshot pick) is Mathew Barzal. He's a right-handed centreman with terrific hockey sense. He was a pretty big stretch at the beginning of the year but he is out for a little while with a knee injury which could drop him. He has put up good numbers (18 points in 16 games) while playing for a bad Seattle Thunderbirds team. It will be interesting to see how he does once he comes back from the injury. He's not at an ideal size for a centre (5'11-6'0/177-180lbs) but he's not tiny and has the opportunity to bulk up a bit, as the majority of these prospects do. He's also a BC kid which is a bonus. ;- )
