Bobby Orr.

Had he been a center he'd have never had those injuries to his knees the same way he did having to stop and pivot so hard.

Lemiuex,

no chance without cancer woes and a failing team leading in to the mid to late 90's he doesn't take 2nd overall in the history of the league. A player all his own

Gretzky. End of story.

Gretzky without the massive issues with arthritis he had into his early/mid 30's would still have put up 100 point seasons, watching him play was such a joy and the evidence of the pain he fought through into his 30's was so clear when you watched his point totals not just drop but completely plummet. The guy was done before his time and should have hit the 3000 point mark

Gretzky or Lemieux.

Orr doesn't belong on the list because of how few games he played. He was an amazing d-man for 657 games, but yeah.

Any team would have taken Nicklas Lidstrom (who played 1564 games) over a bobby Orr for less than half of those games.

In other words, was Bobby Orr the best for 657 games? Yes. Was he the best over a career? No. Because he didn't have a "career".

Lemieux is cutting it close too, but he played another 300 games or so beyond Orr.
