luongomyhero1
The great play of Bo Horvat makes me wonder what is going to happen when Burrows gets back. The Teams bottom 6 has been playing really well and provided good depth offensively. a month ago a no-brainer move would to sit Hansen. but hes got 6 goals on the year and in 3 straight. not to mention that energy line of Dorsett-Horvat-Hansen has look lethal for a 4th line the last few games. So who is the odd man out once Burrows gets back? I think JB should explore dangling KAssian out on the block for a top 4 dman because neither Hansen or MAtthias will get a big return. With Hamhuis going down for a long period of time we need a minute munching shutdown defensive D-man. Here's a few options i thinkk could work. Van: Coburn, 3rd round pick PHI: Kassian, Sanguinetti Coburn is a reliable defensive D-man who plays 80 games every season. He would improve our defensive game in Hamhuis' absence, and provide depth in the playoffs and is a significant upgrade on both Weber and Stanton. at 4.5 for this year and next its not a bad contract for a top-4 dman. Kassian would look great with the bullies of the East. Kassian plays the edgy Flyer type game. Currently the Flyers have 6 defenseman getting paid $3.5+ and four over $4mill. they may want to allocate some of that money to the forward core considering they are fairly thin in the bottom 6. Kassian is a top 9 player and has tons of potential to become a top-6 player. He would also create cap relief on a flyers team that is right up against the cap. Sanguinetti is just a kicker as a depth move in case of a couple injuries in Philly on the defense. Also, the Flyers have Sanheim, Morin, and Hagg in the prospect pool waiting to break through into the NHL. tyhee
I'd like this proposal if Coburn wasn't 6 years older than Kassian and carrying a $2.75 million higher annual cap hit ($4.5 million to $1.75 million.) I doubt that Coburn is presently worth his cap hit. He also has many fewer likely producing years than Kassian, with Kassian's upcoming years including his prime years while Coburn is probably just coming out of his. With Coburn signed at that cap hit for another season, the cap now looking like it won't be much different next year and Canucks needing to sign Tanev who will be due for a good-sized raise, I don't see this one making sense from the Canucks' perspective, even though it would bring a defenceman that could help. Pimp C
Absolutely terrible. Selling low on Kassian is possibly the stupidest thing we could do right now, and it infuriates me that our fans want to trade this guy after we've seen front and center what happens when you trade a young power forward on the verge of breaking out.
