Nick Ritchie and 4 other Petes suspended for Egging Car.

Recommended Posts

The Peterborough Petes promising season is starting to smell a bit rotten.

Five players from the OHL team, including prominent stars Nick Ritchie, Hunter Garlent, and Eric Cornel, who make up their first line, were suspended one game by the Petes for damaging a car after throwing eggs at it, according to Scott Arnold of Extra 90.5 in Peterborough.

Michael Clarke and Josh MacDonald are the other two players involved.

The Petes will sit the five players, one per night, for five consecutive games.

MacDonald was the first to sit during Thursday's 3-1 win against the Kitchener Rangers.

Arnold also reported that no charges have been laid, as the players agreed to pay for the damage to the car.

5 Ptbo Petes including Nick Ritchie, Hunter Garlent & Eric Cornel suspended 1 game by team for damaging a car; I'm being told they egged it

There have been rumblings that the team has had a real lack of leadership in their dressing room over the past few seasons, with veterans passing on old, bad habits to the younger players.

This news comes on the heels of another embarrassing situation for the once proud OHL organization, that saw forward Greg Betzold suspended 15 games after sending sexually-charged messages to women on the dating app Tinder.

The egg incident reportedly occurred around a month ago, the same time as the Betzold fiasco and the OHL Subway Super Series against Team Russia, which had three Petes representing Team OHL.

The Petes were projected by many experts to be one of the stronger teams in the Eastern Conference this season after a good showing in last season's playoffs.

They came from 3-0 down in their first round playoff series against the Kingston Frontenacs, to take the historic series 4-3.

Currently, the Petes sit in eighth in the East with 19 points and a 8-11-3 record

It doesn't shock me things happened, remove the talent, career prospects and celebrity, and these are just young adults with the same inclination as anyone. I've egged a few cars in my time...and once spent the night in the drunk tank for it. A non issue for me.

Good to see that these kids are actually showing the world that they are kids. Who hasn't egged cars/houses, toilet papered property, thrown snowballs at buses as a youth? I'd rather see kids blow off steam like the Petes boys just did than suffer through the pressure of junior hockey resulting in life stories like Victor Oreskovich, Stefan Legein and Terry Trafford (to name a few players).

My brother and I were waiting in the car for our parents and decided to throw snowballs at cars passing by the nearby highway. I finally hit one and thought that would be the end of it. Buddy in the truck decides to stop, turn around, and have a little talk with me. I was pretty sure he was going to kill me, but I think he realized he already got his message across. Have never thrown anything at a car since. I imagine the punishment here was firm enough that these guys won't make the same mistake again, unless the get hammered.

Everyone has to learn life lessons on their own. Myself and a friend were throwing rocks at vehicles tires as they drove by one day when we were 12, ended up hitting the side of a car who decided to turn around and slam on the gas pedal towards us. Scared the bejeebus out of us and I've never thrown anything at a vehicle again... (okay, just snowballs).

So how do eggs damage a vehicle?

Chemical reaction in the egg whites and most paint jobs can leave the finish uneven leaving a a faded look in the area hit if the egg isn't removed immediately. Not sure if that's what happened here though.

Hmmmm, I guess I've never stuck around before to see the damage. Thankfully I didn't do too much of that as a kid.

I remember a bunch of us egging cars growing up, except we were 12 or 13. Pretty childish to be egging cars when you're 19.

There is less of an impetus to grow up when you're a junior hockey player. So much of life responsibilities are handled by other people. These guys get spoon-fed through school. Ultimately it is their responsibility to grow up, but sometimes it is hard to mature at an appropriate pace when other people are holding your hand at each stage of your life.
