Skin deep tech: Cicret bracelet aims to turn your arm into 'new tablet'

"Don’t trust any website selling it yet," they warn.

The Cicret, activated with a twist of the wrist, is equipped with an embedded memory card, processor, accelerometer, micro USB port, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. But the key part is the so-called "pico-projector" and an array of proximity sensors. The pico projector projects the interface onto your arm. When you put your finger on the interface, you stop one of eight proximity sensors. The sensor sends the information back to the processor in your Circet bracelet.

"Read your mails, play your favorite games, answer your calls, check the weather, find your way…Do whatever you want on your arm," they promise.

The idea has drawn its fair share of criticism, as there is no working prototype and no solid guarantees that it will actually be realized.

The inventors say they need €700,000 to finish the first prototype of the bracelet and €300,000 to develop the Cicret App for all platforms. If their crowdsourcing proves successful, the Cicret bracelet is planned to be available in 10 colors and two drive sizes - 16 and 32 GB.

Cicret co-founder, Guillaume Pommier, told Gizmag that the company expects to have the bracelet, conceived a year ago and designed over the course of six months, on the market in about 18 months, with a price tag of up to $400. The first prototype should be ready by late December.

I, for one, would rejoice in not having to haul a giant ass electronic device around.

So dumb, This dumb-down society we live in get's more and more lazy every day, A lot of idiots are going to get suckered in to this (if it even is real) and yeah, Enjoy your cancer.

i don't really get how this is a representation of laziness or society being dumbed down

one thing I've been saying as wearable tech becomes mainstream the last few years: a lot of people are going to realize it wasn't just the content it enabled them to access that appealed, but also the social anxiety relief from fiddling with a small external device.

poking your arm keeps you too self aware imo to work the same way.

We're dumb-down because majority of the people will buy anything with a 'nice' add and just because it's 'hip' at the momment.

We're dumb-down because so many people let technology control their life, When was the last time you sat @ a dinner table and had a proper meal with out someone going through their phone?

You can't reach in to your pocket or bag for 2 secs and dial a number that you really need this? ....I guess it's worth the carpal tunnel and cancer...

Technology has really made people stupid and lazy.

just curious, do you have any issues with remote controls for televisions, search engines, calculators, and mobile phones in general?

at what point do you consider technology more than being 'hip'?

should people still be using tv tuner knobs, rotary phones, and paper for their math problems?

I look at more than just convenience , I take it in to factor health risks and other things like actually having a social life and being active, you don't need a piece of equipment attached to you 24/7.

...And no, I have nothing against technology, but there is more to life that clicking and pressing buttons all day and night.

Might as well be robots.

Pfft, uber inconvenient having to wear that stupid bracelet. I'll wait until they can just jam that thing directly into my arm, thank you very much.

Agreed...

We will probably see some insane technological advancements near the tail end of our lifetimes.

Imagine what it will be like trying to explain someone how to use a keyboard or mouse.

I'm actually quite impressed with how you have managed to both criticize and give credit to your claim within one single post on an Internet forum.

This is what we call advancement and modernization which is a good thing. Without innovations or advancements, we would still be living in the caveman era if we used your logic. Innovation and creativity along with advancements in technology has had more benefits than downsides. Besides, a lot of things factor into health risks nowadays like the food we eat or the air we breath.

I think it'll end up like smart phones and Google glasses, not many people will want it. Most people are satisfied with a smart phone. What people really want is cheaper data plans.

You mean what people in "Canada" want is the cheaper data plan. Anywhere else in the world, data plans are relatively much cheaper and many places already offer unlimited LTE for a cheap price. Just too bad that the Canadian telecoms are still living in 1990's.
