[PGT] Flames @ Canucks

Hopefully this will help confidence.

My daughter was puking all night and I only got to watch about half the second and it made me feel sick. Those were two bad hockey teams playing last night. Who would watch that if they weren't fans. Poor passing, poor defensive coverage, broken plays everywhere and that was the winning team.

Not the team we saw early in the year now that their opponent have settled into there defensive schemes. At least we still have 10 games a year against Flames and Oilers.

Willie Desjardins won't be happy with this game. We got the win, but a win isn't a win isn't a win.

3 goals by the canucks

1 goal that Calgary scored on themselves

1 goal on the PP

1 goal in 4 on 4 in OT

So a severe lack of 5 on 5 scoring is really going to hurt us down the road especially when we play LA on Jan 1 and Detroit on Jan 3. Those are two teams that you need to be able to score against 5 on 5. Bottom line... I didn't see anything tonight that made me think we will be going on a hot winning streak anytime soon. Nucks need to be a hell of a lot better than this.

It was a nice win and a huge pressure reliever, but we can't keep sitting back and letting teams to come back like tonight. It's been the team's worst habit for the last couple of seasons.

We may still come up on top when we play the likes of oilers and flames and sabres, but have absolutely zero chance against kings, ducks and hawks of the world in the top of the food chain.

I hope Willie D pats the players on the back for a W, but still let them know they must shake off the bad habits to keep it going.

This...

Canucks need to play a full 60 minutes to beat the teams ahead of them in the standings.

Urgency has to be there every game on every shift...keep the pedal to the metal and role 4 lines.

So much talk about the goalies. Miller was god enough to get he win. Team played 30 good minutes out of 60. Same scenario as Ottawa where they get out to a good led and then take their foot off the gas. Calgary was ripe for the picking and the Nucks, once again, could not put their foot on their throat and it almost cost them the game.

The Defense played better tonight but still got chasing far too often.

The win is nice but the lack of offense being generated by the Sedin line 5 v 5 is alarming. 4 shots tonight with all the PP time and against a team that played last night and has lost 7 in a row. The PP got one but should have salted this one away in the 2nd when Calgary got into penalty trouble but they seemed content to cycle and kill the clock.

Goaltending isn't the problem for this team, it's competing hard for 60 and a lack of offensive ability/push.

I was at the game. First game in along time. With about 1:10 left in the first period, buddy yells at the top of his lungs "How much time is left!?". Perfect timing for the announcer with his regular "1 minute left in the first period" announcement. Then buddy yells "THANK YOU!" I don't know if this is a common thing, but I could not stop laughing.

That awkward moment when that own goal is the only goal we score in regulation. When you think about it, we probably should've lost 1-0.

Canucks lost the 5v5 game last night and would have lost 2-1 in regulation without the incredibly fortuitous "own goal". Last night wasn't a turn around but just a fortunate win against a tired team they should have dominated.

Happy they won but watching the game was less than comforting. This team still has not bought into the concept of going hard every shift of every game. Not sure WD can change the culture of the core.

Good to get a win, but there's no way we should have required a Calgary own goal and OT to beat a tired, beaten-down team on a big losing streak that played the night before.

That's only one side of the story though. Our team WAS rattled when a teammate/friend collapsed on the bench...takes a little of the focus away. Calgary's a tough team to beat when they're on....if you're making excuses for them please allow us to do the same. Dan's also missing, leaving a big hole on D.

. This then base on what you stated a fair game, even excuses for both team and we are out performed.that should be troubling.

Lack will be a UFA by Miller's final year of his contract. I think by then the team will know what to do with the goal tending situation.

Right now I'd rather have Miller/Lack over Lack/Markstrom. Lack had good numbers early of last season but the latter half of the season they weren't good. I'd give Lack this season as a back up and see what happens from there.

I think pretty much anyone would. However, back when Miller was signed, very few were proposing this.

Many thought it a good idea to sign a proven backup (someone like Al Montoya) who could play 25-30 games, while Lack played the bulk of the games. There's no proof that this would have yielded better results, but Eddies play last season, up until the time that Torts rode him like the proverbial rented mule, suggests that it's not out of the question.

That being the hypothetical case, it's therefore possible that the Canucks could have signed that PMD that everyone seems to think we're so sorely lacking. (pun intended)

As far as last night goes, I can't really comment on Miller's overall play, because it was the only night the wife and I had free to watch The Hobbit: 5 Armies, but watching the highlights, the Gaudreau goal was weak. I'd be willing to bet that Miller himself would admit that. However, just by acknowledging that, it doesn't mean that I'm advocating "running Miller out of town" or anything like that. The breakaway save was timely and a goalie's ability to bounce back after letting in a softie is something that one shouldn't underestimate.

Finally, as Oldnews mentioned early in thread, Tanev's snipe is a great story, (especially coming on his birthday) but somewhat lost in the shuffle was the manner in which Danny effortlessly took that pass in the skates from Edler up to his stick. World class skill on display there, but Dan made it look so easy, it hardly got noticed.

Hahaha that is gold. I'm going to a game in a few weeks and I kinda wanna try that if my wife lets me. :)
