Canada Hockey Place Posted December 22, 2014 Share Posted December 22, 2014 Basically a low risk, why not? sort of trade. NYR: Sestito, Zalewski VAN: Malone, McIlrath 1. Ryan Malone for Sestito. NYR gets a younger Sestito, familiar with AV, NY native. VAN gets 35 yo Malone, past-prime power forward probably in his last year, trying to get back into the league after some legal troubles last season. Both UFA. Similar cap hit. 2. Zalewski for McIlrath. NYR gets Zalewski, a Gillis signing. Honestly don't know much about him outside of the 2 games he played for the Canucks last season. NYR signed RPI teammate Ryan Haggerty last season when the VAN signed Zalewski, so chances are they are familiar with him. VAN gets McIlrath, former 10th overall pick. Big, physical, crease clearing Dman. But not worth what he once was and has dropped down the NYR depth chart. Both RFA. BCNeil Posted December 22, 2014 Share Posted December 22, 2014 I don't see much point, none of these guys will be in the league next year. Sestito isn't in the Canucks plans, its pretty obvious. If anyone else wanted him, they could have had him by now. Rangers picked up Malone as a gamble. Doesn't seem to be doing much in the AHL. This will be his final season.
