To the People Who Think We Should Tank Because "We Won't Win the Cup"

You gross me out as a hockey fan. This team has the ability to make the playoffs this year, and once you're there anything can happen. That's what it's all about as a fan; playoff hockey! Once a team is in the playoffs there's a possibility that a team can come together and just get hot at the right time. As a fan, having the chance to witness your team play intense playoff hockey and maybe even pulling off a few upsets is the best part of the whole fan expirience (ie 06 Hurricanes). I honestly can't comprehend losing on purpose to get a top ten pick. Everytime people say they want to watch this team lose repeadetly it makes me automatically assume that they A) don't watch the games and B ) are more of an NHL15 BAGM fan then a Canucks fan. I know I'll be rooting for the Nux in every game they play til the very end. Go Nux go!

So because we are wanting our team to not become the Calgary Flames (of a few years ago) or the Maple Leafs... we aren't fans?

Personally... it's Stanley Cup or bust.

If the Canucks didn't bottom out in the late 90's, we would've never drafted the Sedins or Ohlund.

If we didn't bottom out in the late 80's, we would've never drafted Linden.

I'm with you my man. It's all about making the playoffs. You make the playoffs anything can happen. There's a reason why we have the 5-8th seed teams. They have a legitimate chance of winning as well. If you have a playoff team, you go for it, if you ask me.

There's bottoming out, and then there is losing games on purpose while you still have a shot at the cup. I'm saying a true fan wouldn't just assume this team has 0% chance of winning the cup this year. We create a losing environment and becoming the next Oilers or Maple Leafs is very possible. I want to watch playoff hockey. Not thrown games for a fun draft day on TSN.

Wasn't Carolina a #2 seed?

Edit: just checked. Carolina was the second seed in the east. They literally upset Zero series.

They beat Montreal (7) New Jersey (3) buffalo (4) Edmonton (8)

If your going to go on rants like these its probably best to check your facts before calling anyone out. You look pretty ridiculous right now imo.

Realistically, it's too late to get in the McEichel hunt anyway, so what are you even crying about? You got what you wanted, a team that might scrape into the playoffs. Yippee!

Going forward though, we have an obvious need to bring about change. That's the team motto now. And how do you do that without using the draft?

Anyway, let's see if we can gather some more 2015 picks. There might be some other teams out there with this same level of delusion.

Who's losing on purpose anyway? It's certainly not our NHL players. Too much pride. But not everyone can win either.

So he was wrong about 1 thing, he's still right about everything else, plus the thread isn't about Carolina.......................................................

I don't think you get it.

Making the playoffs doesn't mean you have a legitimate shot.

If playoffs started today

Round 1 - San Jose

Round 2 - Anaheim (Calgary isn't beating them)

Round 3 - Survivor of Nashville/St Louis/Chicago.

If you HONESTLY think the Canucks could make it through that... then... wow.

To The People Who Think We Should Bet the Farm on A Cup Run!

Hey the Flames from 2005 through 20012 called. They wish you the best

Look. I don't think ANYBODY is truly advocating a tank job mid -season. I was and am still of the mind that our re-tool could have been better served by not bringing in Vrbata and Miller and allowing Lack, Eriksson, Kassian, Vey, Horvat etc a better chance to shine in a still competitive if not healthier team.

I STILL think that we should if puttering along at a .500 pace sell off 2 or 3 older forwards and at least 1 maybe 2 of our D to make room for the youth that will be entering our org and team next year and to finish the retool at this years draft.

See, for those of us who have watched this team since the days where Jonny Canuck was slapped in the orgs collective memory before the hideous 3 shades of orange and 1 shade of brown jerseys. We are rather tired of waiting for next year, we are rather tired of watching stale core after stale core fail to get it done. We want success before the sabres blues and any of the other 6 or 7 teams to not win cups as of yet.

See, the "tanking crowd" advocates whole sale slaughter to the roster in hopes that they'll take a top 3 pick. The rest of us want this team to sink or swim on the merits of the current core of players - a few pieces. We know that a cup is almost assuredly not happening barring some miracle on ice to make Herb smile. We want some solid changes to the country club mentality and one last kick at the can in 2 seasons with what we have after some of our youth have been brought in and the necessary changes made.

For some of us, you have to understand, waiting for endless mediocrity is not satisfactory. After 44 years we demand more as fans and ticket holders. This doesn't mean tank it just means consolidation and honest appraisals about this team and whether we will do it with this core or not. Which it is obvious we will not.

Mediocrity is not what we pay stupid amounts of money for and as such we can and in fact will demand better. That is the nature of this sport and business. The season ticket holders are by extension share holders and after 40+ years we can demand better without being referred to as video game players. Those of us who lived through the shellacking in 82, the heart break in 94 and the let down of 2011 have that right after this long.

By that logic, about 24 teams should tank every year while the other 6 actually play to win, and 5 will figure it was all for naught.

Canucks bottomed out last year and got Virtanen.
