Who uses Wind Mobile?

I constantly go over my data on my current plan, and am trying to cut some costs... I saw wind has a 44$ unlimited everything plan and was wondering what peoples experience with them is.

I know its not LTE, and ive heard they used to have shoddy reception, but no contracts and very cheap plans, its almost worth it to try...

So?

Do it.

I'm with Mobilicity on a similar type of plan.

I have Unlimited Data/Texting - all for a very low price. I have no problems with service. Some areas will have blackouts, but not many.

Fido/Rogers or any other big company will not have anywhere close to 44.

On another note, Mobilicity/Wind should merge, though they've had talks about it and have since died down. Telus was rumored to purchase Mobilicity, much to the Conservatives' chagrin.

One thing that the Conservatives did do right was to try and open up competition in the mobile network, but their efforts have definitely failed.

Comcast didn't come in, for starters. Wind has been trying to pull out of Canada. Mobilicity is close to being bankrupt, if not already.

When the big three remain healthier than ever, you KNOW there's a problem with competition here.

What phone do you use? Im using a smartphone and concerned the lack of LTE will cause drastic slow downs when using internet

Sony Xperia S. Also a smartphone.

As far as I'm concerned, my internet is very fast, even on data plan.

Mobilicity is on 4G.

I'm on Wind mobile and I regret it every second.

I have the $40/mo unlimited everything. I get $&!# data speeds (they only claim up to, not a guaranteed minimum level of speed). At the best of times it's enough to check my email and maybe a couple of static sites... Netflix? HAH.

In certain areas, the coverage is so poor that the only way for me to use my phone is via Wi-Fi. In other areas (like anywhere around Kingsway & Boundary) or, generally speaking anywhere in Burnaby I get practically no service (voice or data).

Their admin site is garbage, I'm supposed to have $12/mo of free addons, but need to pay for those addons first and then trust that their system will do the correct math... ie not how it was marketed at all.

Roaming is inconsistent if it works at all, about 1/10 chance.

It's possible that it *could* be the phone, but the phone is brand new and purchased from Wind at the time of activation (because the phone I brought from my out of province carrier was incompatible for some reason).

I'm waiting until my wife's contract runs out, and then plan on getting a family plan through Rogers.

Add to all of this that Wind is flirting with bankruptcy (it's primary investor and parent company has indicated that no more cash will be funnelled into the Wind operation, and it must stand on it's own).

Not impressed with Wind at all.

Great value compared to $$$ other companies want from you (I'm with Bell so I know) but you get a number of places where there's bo reception. I'm content with Bell but if I was in a position where I had to save money I'd surely move to Wind. Very cheap and you get pretty much everything. Only down side is you might not have reception in certain places and if you're okay with that then go for it.

Plus I'm pretty sure Wind is a monthly plan so if you don't like it you can switch back to another company. I'd try it if I were you.

If you're a city employee [any Canadian city] you can get a code from your employer and get the business plan from Rogers.

I'm on it, $50 a month, 9GB LTE data, unlimited text, nationwide calling, voicemail and all that jazz. After tax comes to $56 or $57.

If you're not a city worker, then go with Wind Mobile. It might take you 10 seconds longer to load a page but you'll be saving like $30 a month compared to a standard unlimited data plan.

I'm relatively content with Wind. I mean, you kinda get what you paid for.

You can usually go like 6gb+ per month before they start limiting you.

The only complaints, much like other posters have already mentioned, it's deadspots at certain locations. Driving along Marine Drive/Way is kinda iffy at times. Sometimes in the middle of the downtown library can be bad. Pretty much when you're in the middle of some large building/mall/etc, your signal can be weak. The weaker signal drains your battery too.

Speed is decent, I mean you probably can't stream Netflix on HD, but I'm able to do it for regular SD. Good luck streaming Netflix or youtube on HD with a regular plan on Robelus.... you'll be paying hundreds of dollars.

It's unfortunate that people keep flocking back to the main companies.

It's sad but true. It just speaks to the absolute lack in legitimate competition. I would have been all over Verizon, had they not been completely $&!# on by the big 3 crying to the public and the CRTC.

Verizon would have been able to afford putting in a legit network of their own towers, not having to settle for second rate de-prioritized bandwidth from the major carriers towers.

One thing is for certain, I will never return to Bell or Telus, Rogers is the very epitome of lesser of three evils. When I lived in Manitoba, MTS (provincially based private carrier) was actually quite good. Prices, services and speed all great and fully unlimited data and calls while inside Manitoba.

Yeah true. All true, though i've never been to Manitoba. MTS seems to be a lot more reasonable than the other companies though.

Been with Bell for about 11 years now so get great discounts on the plan but if I didn't get those discounts I would definitely leave. My father is an expert bargainer so that has really helped getting the best bang for my buck. I pay $30 a month unlimited texting, nationwide calling and got a phone worth $150 for free.

Never had a call dropped even once in my 11 years with Bell, internet works well anywhere can't complain at all.

I use it for personal use and couldn't be more happier. There are some dead zones, so make sure your area is covered by them. I was gouged by Rogers for 10 years and love every minute to be away from them. I just hope Wind's coverage and speeds improve over time.

Retention plans with the big 3 are always the best way to go unless you only stay in an area where Wind actually has good reception. If you're already on a plan with them then you gotta call them up and tell them your plan isn't working out and you want to cancel, then they'll start throwing offers at you to try and keep you.

Really?

I had Fido for like 4-5 years and when I mentioned I was switching over to Mobilicity, they tried to sell me a "comparable" $80/month plan. I was like.... "ummm... nope" and that was that.
