Was it an open practice today?

It was the Save On Foods invitation private practice

Nux LW Derek Dorsett, hurt Tuesday vs Ducks, on returning to practice today: "Feel good. Feel energized. Taking it day-by-day."

Coach Willie says Derek Dorsett (neck/head) a possibility for Sunday's game vs Wild. Confirms Clendening is in.

New Nux D Adam Clendening says he will play Sunday vs Wild. Looks like Yannick Weber and Ryan Stanton will sit.

Clendenings stall is next to Weber's

Woohooo. I can catch the game before work thats great :D. In his interview last night that I heard on the radio I must say he sounds very mature. I think hes going to be a good leader on this team in the years to come. Kinda gotta be a leader to be a PPQB.

Weber scores a goal and then is scratched the next game...hmmmmm. oh well it will be interesting to see how Clendening will do.

I would also like to see Stanton put in the lineup to keep him sharp (but who do you scratch?...Sbisa?).

i liked the energy I saw from Kenins. I remember him being one of the best players at the Canucks prospect camps a few years ago. Kenins reminds me of a poor mans Dorsett/Torres.

I also think that at this point kassian is suited for the 4th line. i liked how he and Horvat were able to create space for each other with their big bodies.

Why is hamhuis on the second unit... No offense but he's just horrible on PP. He's never been effective.

Wouldn't mind seeing the following forward line up:

22 - 33 - 17

27 - 13 - 14

20 - 7 - 9

41 - 53 - 36

I think Kass needs to be on a line with a guy who likes to shoot, which is what Higgins provides. On a line like 20 - 7 - 9, we would need Vey and Kass pushing the play and Higgins being the late man coming in. Kass's favorite play is taking the puck deep into the corners and looking for the trailer on the opposite side of the ice. Worth a look?

IMO, Bonino plays better with Burrows on his line (though the traditional stats may dispute that). Having a big guy like Matthias driving the net and playing low while Bonino and Burrows can play high and finding rebounds may work.

Bo's line looked good with Kass on it last night, but IMO, Bo and Hansen have been good together most of the season. Having Kenins provide speed, energy and play along the wall, while being a left hand shot could play out well. As well, Kenins brings "call-up" energy which could help the line for at least a couple more games until Dorsett is back.

I would like to have seen Clendening with Edler. Sidisme did a nice analysis of how Edler would benefit from a partner who is a strong PMD in a post back a few months ago, and I've been wanting to see how Edler would play with such a player (even Bobby Sanguinetti). Hard to argue with the success of Edler/Tanev combo, but this could have given the back end some balance, which I think has been missing.

D-pairings that I would like to have seen: 23-44; 3 - 26; 5 - 8; 18 - 6. This is not to imply Tanev is moved into the 5-6 slot. I think this would give us three pairings with a top 3 guy on each pairing. IMO, Sbisa's game would probably improve 20% playing beside Tanev...Hamhuis and Corrado has looked pretty good so far. Only mystery would be how well Edler and Clendening could play together.

I don't necessarily think we need to make any trades at this juncture...maybe a re-deployment of the assets that we currently have is sufficient to kick-start a good run in February.

Just my two cents.

Scoring a goal against the worst team in the league doesn't mean you're safe from being scratched when your team has struggled. No offense to Weber, who I think is a very serviceable 7th defenseman, but if there's an upgrade available I'd expect him to be the first scratch.

Horvat with Kassian was certainly interesting though.

#Canucks Willie D met with his d-men today. 8 healthy guys here right now. Coach wanted to lay out his plans for dealing with the logjam

What will his plan be I wonder. Is the Scott Rintoul show tonite going to talk about the canucks at all or is it going to be superbowl non sense all nite again? Not a hater of football and I hope the seahawks win but when i tune in to that show I expect a lot more hockey talk. Last episode (thurs) was all football.
