[Discussion] Crowded crease - 3 starters- which one is trade bait?

Because of Miller's inconsistent play as of late and Lack proving to be the fan favourite that he is, it's inevitable that an underlying theme this year is yet again... goaltender controversy. We have 3 bonafide NHL goalies right now with Lack, Miller, and Jacob Markstrom absolutely tearing it up in the AHL. So which one is the number 1 goalie? and which one can we afford to give up?

The obvious trade asset would be Markstrom at this upcoming trade deadline in trying to improve this team right now with a deal that could perhaps bring back a 2nd line centre that the Canucks so desperately need - especially with Bonino out of the lineup right now. And with Miller signed on for another 2 years following this season - at $6-million per- its likely he's going to be staying for the remainder of the term. Looking at Lack, is he an expendable asset for this team with Markstrom arguably budding for a backup NHL position right now? Would we get more in return for Lack rather than Markstrom at the upcoming deadline?

We discuss some of this plus a youth movement in Vancouver, Ronnie Kenins, Bo Horvat, and more in our latest episode of NuckStove. Check us out!

Markstrom is a bonafide NHL starter?

NHL Record:

47 GP

12 W

.896 S%

3.19 GAA

0 SO

It's nice he's having a very good AHL season but he's not a bonafide NHL goalie until he actually shows it in the NHL.

Agreed.. we are hardly at that stage of goaltender controversy..

But I think in the future there might be a log jam with the possible emergence of Demko and Eriksson.

Ya I too am on the dump 6Miller if you can boat!!! That Doh could be spent on first line center or a top pairing D heck even both if we managed to include Higgins in a deal.

It only cost money to sign him its not like we gave up anything. If a team offered a late round pick at worst we would have bought a late round pick for our efforts. Letting Markstrom walk would really suck. Trading Lack for a 3rd would be a huge mistake. When those two could make for a heck of a tandem and have a healthy competition for starts with no controversy.
