Canada Hockey Place
OK. You can stop laughing now. Try to take this seriously. Just trying to think outside the box. So, Kyle Wellwood retired a year ago, stating his heart wasn't in it anymore. He's 31 now. Not playing anywhere as far as I could find out. I propose the Canucks contact him about becoming a PP specialist/ C for 2nd unit PP. Sign him, send to him to Utica for conditioning, and see how that goes.... - skilled, great vision - right handed, good at face-offs - not a defensive liability - doesn't take penalties No risk, possibly high reward. Improves the PP.
Oregon.Duck
Seriously though, I'm not sure Wellwood would be even a few lightyears near the realm of pieces we need on this team. Points for thinking outside the box, I guess.
Mathew Barzal
We have too many guys being pushed off the roster as is. Unless have a fire sale I don't see how he fits in. I do like the premise though.
-SN-
Credit for thinking outside of the box, but I don't think we're in the market for an older, soft, injury prone, out of condition third liner who quit hockey because his heart wasn't in it. elvis15
The only way this even comes close to working is if we have a fire sale as mentioned. Even then I don't see us moving enough centers to make it worthwhile, since Henrik and Horvat aren't going anywhere, and Bonino and Vey's price point is too good right now with the cap stalled. Maybe at best we trade Higgins, Hansen, Richardson and Matthias, but even then I don't think that leaves us so desperate as to want to sign a player that's been retired for a year. etsen3
Idk. If he had a beer leaguer's body while playing in the NHL, imagine what he looks like now that's he's an actual beer leaguer.

Chalky
So, Kyle Wellwood retired a year ago, stating his heart wasn't in it anymore. He's 31 now. Not playing anywhere as far as I could find out. 1. If his heart isn't in it, we don't him. 2. Do you remember what he looked like the last time he had time off and was actually planning on coming back?
timberz21
lets bring back sundin too I'm sure it would be 100% better than Wellwood !!! Wow this is ridiculous, Wellwood wasn't even producing on the 2nd PP while he was "in shape", what's make you think he can now, bring "high rewards" for our PP. Seriously, think about it... MickeyBlueEyes
When i first saw the thread, I though it was going to be about contacting Wellwood about coming in to coach the guys on faceoffs, like you said, he was a solid faceoff man. We all know we need help in the faceoff department, that I would be good with.
Monty
Starting to think that, just like needing a license to drive, you should have one in order to start threads.
BanTSN
I heard he's working in an old folks home now. Changing bedpans or something. (Hey, at least it's not a burgers/mcdonalds joke) News update: Wellwood LEFT hockey. He is done.
Ghostsof1915
Might as well ask Trevor to lace them up, he can win face-offs.
thejazz97
I propose the Canucks contact him about becoming a PP specialist/ C for 2nd unit PP. Sign him, send to him to Utica for conditioning, and see how that goes.... Just keep him away from the buffet lines...
coryberg
Did you say conditioning and wellwood in the same post?
thejazz97
I think, if it's heart's not in it, why bother? There are plenty of ex-Canucks we could sign. Brendan Morrison, Sammy Pahlsson, etc.
