Do we really want 20 mill of the cap tied to Burr, Hanson, Higgins, Matthias? With the exception of Higgins I actually they've all had terrific years but with the cap around 71 mill next year is that a good idea?? Traded two 2nds for 1 player that won't help them now, (which by the way are the picks they got from NYI for giving away Boychuk) and they now have nothing left to throw in to make another team take cap back in a trade except for a lottery 1st because they won't make the playoffs. They have no Cap to sign Hamilton, Krug, and Smith for next season. It all comes down to choices that have little to do with his play on the ice. It has a lot more to do with: 1. WILL he re-sign here or is he already planning to test free agency? 2. If the answer is yes to wanting to re-sign now what dollars and term are they able to get it done at. If they are too high it is not worth it for the Canucks. 3. Because he is a UFA, is playing well and would bring a decent return that could help in other places.
