If the Canucks' miss the playoffs. Will it mean the core is gone?

Recommended Posts

So I'm just wondering if this team manages to miss the playoffs this year, could it mean the end for the core and retool process. Would it mean we go into a full rebuild mode eg 4-5 years

I'm looking at our schelude, and if you guys haven't yet then take a look now. You will be amazed at how many tough games this team has. Kind of wish this was February's schelude, since Benning would of done the obivous, but what can we do?

Either way, if this team makes the playoffs they will need to prove they can beat teams like Ducks, LA, Winnipeg, Dallas - because this team has shown they struggle against them lol,

we do play some easy teams like the Yotes, Oilers, Avs, Leafs, but again I don't see any of these teams being easy.

What do you guys think the record needs to be for this team to make the playoffs?

7-10-2 would that be fine? and my 2nd question, do you guys think it will be the end of the core if this team misses the playoffs?

It would take a Tortsing Streak to miss the playoffs and in spite of all of the injuries the team has managed to not lose 2 games in a row since January so I'll say they'll make it. Regardless of outcome this team isn't set for a full rebuild. A few middling first round exit seasons perhaps but by the time the Sedins are done the youth movement will have become regulars.

No way. Who are you going to move exactly? Sedins? No chance. Bieksa, Hamhuis, Edler all have NTC's that they don't want to waive. At the most you may get to trade Higgins, but that's not much of a change.

Plus, we will make the playoffs. Tonight was tough. Markstrom was shaky, it was just a bad decision to have him in against Sj

I'm not sure what our record would have to be to make the playoffs, I heard it has to be above .500 or something. I don't think benning will honestly change the core that much if we don't make the playoffs they want to keep a winning environment for the prospects to develop in. The canucks already refused to rebuild and they knew not making the playoffs was a risk we were willing to take. They are just retooling on the fly, guys like miller and vrbata still got a few more years here and I'm guessing they will make a playoff push until guys like that and the sedins are gone.

Until the Sedins retire, no. The dark ages will be upon us soon though. Enjoy these next few years while they last.

Those will definitely be some erie times..

All that karma of us laughing at the leafs and coilers might add up and show face.

But then again the coilers will probably be still getting top 10 picks lol..

so a record of 9 - 8 - 2 would probably get us in? So if the Canucks' are making the playoffs they need to beat a elite team 2 times at-least and beat the bottom feeders because we have 7 games against bottom feeders.

I'm guessing this is a reactionary post to tonight's bad loss.

To be fair, I place the majority of the blame on WD for this one. I think its great that he's all about giving everyone a fair shot but this was just bad pre-game decision making. He absolutely limited our chances to win.

1. Top D guy's out and he starts a goalie that had no regular season experience against a very offensively loaded team. Markstrom should have gotten a look against Buffalo or Arizona, instead of San Jose.

2. Switching Biega, who was playing pretty decently, for Corrado, who was coming off injury.

3. He knows that Bonino has been struggling to score and he inserts McMillan, the guy who got waived.

But as to question posed. The Sedins, Edler, Burrows and Hamhuis (at times) have all proven that they can play and keep this team competitive.

As for the rest of the team, it's clear the Benning has no qualms about asking players to give a list of teams. Whether they go will largely depend on our prospects and if Benning thinks they're ready. I personally think Higgins should be traded first. Travis Green has said that Jensen has earned his trust when playing to maintain a lead. At least Jensen has offensive upside. Bieksa's could be a candidate as well, I wouldn't part with him since he's the only guy willing to get into a scrap. Other than Dorset and Kassian, who really should avoid fights all together since it seems to throw him off his game.

The core will remain unless they buy outhe some players and the sedins will remain for sure.

This last stretch is gonna be rough and really depends on the teams around us dropping the ball as well.

-Sedins? Check the scoring race, Henrik is only 8 points behind the leader.

-Hamhuis? Without him, we are outside looking in. Arguably the best defensive defenceman on the team. His offence is not so great but at least he can skate the puck.

-Edler? Has shown how good of a player he is before his injury.

-Bieksa? Yeah, if there is a taker. That cap hit can be used to sign Matthias and Dorsett.

-Burrows? Maybe, especially if he can be replaced by Kassian on the first line and we bring in a suitable replacement. His cap hit can be used to sign a player, maybe a UFA defenceman like Green?

-Higgins? Benning seems to think very highly of him and affordable cap hit... doubt he will be shipped out but maybe.

-Hansen? Been great with Bo and Kenins. We need more of these speedy guys, not less.

Sedins are going to have to keep this team competitive for the next 2-3 years while Horvat can hopefully be atleast a 2nd liner which I think he can be as soon as next season. We got guys like McCann, Virtanen, Cassels, Shinkaruk, Baertschi eventually come up.

I think we should make a move for a 24-27 emerging top 6 forward like if we can get something like that. Chicago signed Hossa and traded for Sharp while having a strong homegrown core, I hope we can do something like that.
