Trade Conor(like Lindros, discussion)

Recommended Posts

Hard to compare it to the Nords/Lindros..That was partly attributable to Fr/Eng culture differences/preferences; as well, there was no cap-factor at the time.

Still imagine some lucky team lands the lotto..Which GM is most likely to consider accepting a huge package for McDavid?

Which other franchise would most likely have the resources/wherewithal to land him? Buffalo, Edm, Philly or TBay perhaps?

What's an example package that it would take,(given CM's performance, this season)?

Example: If Edm landed the #1, what if TBay offered: Drouin, Hedman(great contract), Vasilevsky & their 1st? Perhaps TBay could add one of Johnson, Palat or Kucherov, instead of the pick? They definitely could assemble an attractive, enticing package.

Should Buffalo lose the lotto, might they offer Ristolainen, Reinhart & their pick? With their owners deep pockets, Murray might go farther than any GM to land McDavid(eg:take back 1 or 2 lousy contracts, in the deal)

Could Philly offer a Simmonds, Voracek, young D-package?

If an unlikely team wins the lotto, would the chance of such a deal increase?

All hypothetical, but it would make for quite a story, & interested if any have opinions/insights on this. Would've been madness if the Lindros deal happened in the internet-age.

I may get flames for this, because mcdavid is mcdavid, but doesn't anybody else think the TBL proposal is an overpayment? A top d man in the league for another ten years, a player who will very likely be competing with mcdavid in points, one of the best young goalies in the world plus a first? I know it's mcdavid but that seems steep to me.

It's a different NHL since the lockouts and the type of deal that worked for Lindros just isn't feasible anymore. Lindros was a forced deal anyway, where I don't see McDavid refusing Edmonton/Buffalo/Arizona in the same way.

But for sake of argument, there would have to be a very good roster player, a top flight prospect, a top pick +++. And then the trading team would have to be able to move similar contracts back, both in number and to manage cap hits. And then consider how those would add/subtract from value on the other side, and you can see how it starts to get very complicated.

I am prett sure I have seen interviews with McDavid that suggested he would be happy to go wherever, an honour to be wanted in the NHL.

I have also seen interviews where he dreamed of playing for his home town Leafs. but even then he was guarded to be drawn into the conversations.

I think it's a non issue.

I can tell you there's a 0% chance he gets traded. But, I'll play along. If the team with the first decides to trade it, they'll receive a package that will make them lethel, and will be contenders for many, many years. Whoever gets McDavid will sell tonnes of jerseys, and Mcjesus can single-handedly fill arenas, and the owner will be very happy

That's what they all say, until they get drafted by Edmonton

There's no way that the difference between mcdavid and 2nd overall Eichel is going to be reinhart and Ristolainen. Eichel is going to walk into the leauge and be just as much of a force as mcdavid. He just doesnt get as much publicity as McJesus. Eichel might even be better the first couple years because he's a bigger more ready body. I personally think they're going to have a very crosby-ovechkin like relationship over the years. In summary no way Buffalo gives up another potential 1c reinhart, top d-man ristolainen and Jack Eichel for that pick.

I can see Mac T trading this pick. This will be a fun to see what he does, but the Oilers are saved at the moment because they can be a real contender soon. Check out their top 6, and with Nurse coming up they are lacking only decent puck moving D-man and a goaltender, which shouldn't be hard to get, since Toronto will probably give them James Riemer for a 2nd rounder.

So Oilers have made this division a bit tougher for next year.

Lmao please. Their forwards don't play defense and are still soft as shat. I love Nurse though. But yeah, give it 2 years and they'll be competing for the playoffs.

Call it Devil's advocate, if you will.

Disparate views & dissenting voices seem to get their fair share of poster-bashing(face-palms, & various insults)..but I don't really give a damn, myself.

What are these DISCUSSION boards especially for ..sheep? Should we all agreeably bleat on in positive fashion about the player/issue du jour, & then get on with our pleasant little lives?

I don't continuously post this notion to simply upset Edmontonians..I'm sure many love their town for various reasons. I just simply don't see McDavid happily going there.

So I'll suggest Edm COULD drum up a huge bidding war, between 4 to 5 teams(with legitimate stockpiles/WMD) out east; & it's VERY interesting(for armchair GM's) to ponder what kind of haul they might land.

Discussion boards, right? Of course rudeness is an option, if one is already so inclined.

Have a nice day. ;^)
