Pete M
There is a saying 50% of sport is mental and 50% is actual true talent, skill and ability? Canuck's management goal this year is making the playoffs...but once in, are they happy with just making the playoffs? The players are hearing this from JB, WD, and TL...so when they do actually make the playoffs, then will the players mentally be satisfied? OR will they refocus and start preparing for battle...because this is when the real hockey begins. This is when the team needs to be playing their best hockey, they need to be focused and bring energy, physical play and execute their game plan. There is no room for inconsistent play. They need to bring their best effort every game. Point is...first step is making the playoffs, but the second step is finding the kller instinct and belief that the Stanley Cup is the ONLY goal and not to be satisfied until the Canucks are raising the cup over their heads. TheRussianRocket.
Only expectation the Canucks have this year is to make the playoffs considering the complete rehaul management/coaching went through in the offseason and the retool that took shape with the roster. If they can do that (which it looks like they're on pace to), then this is a successful season. How far they go after that is just added bonus. CeeBee51
You gotta make it to the dance b4 you can think about actually dancing. The goal is to get there and then give it your best shot. Standing_Tall#37
Yes, I'd say that's a fair assumption. Making the playoffs with this group in this stage of their careers is like winning a cup for these guys

SabreFan1
Winning the Stanley Cup is Winning the Stanley Cup. Being able to get into the playoffs is an indicator that your team is on the right track. Winning 16 games in the playoffs en route to the promised land is much easier said than done. Ghostsof1915
Great picture of the Sherman Tank with "Buffalo" on the side. Given where this team was last year, we've made strides this year. I think though we're a long way off from being a team that can surprise in the playoffs. But then again who knows?

If the Canucks go in blazing and Miller has a hot hand, getting to the second round is possible. As much as we'd all love to see it happen, the Canucks won't get past that. The Western Conference playoffs will be tougher than the East. Too many good teams.
Crabcakes
If the Canucks make the playoffs then great, but that doesn't mean that they've "arrived" and it's ok for them to lose 4 straight. They need to do their best once they're in, the goal is of course the Sanley Cup. The benefit of what they have done so far is that the group is raising their game to compete for a playoff spot. Of course, if they get in the playoffs, they will have to raise their game yet another level. It's about learning what it takes and the benefit is huge. In this regard, there was a lesson to be learned from the Kings game (awful as it was to watch)
smithers joe
the players won't be happy with getting knocked out of the playoffs but benning is changing this team as he goes along...it will take a couple more years and we need some degree of patience..as the young are ready to make the team, they will move out the older players...fans want them to do it quickly, but they have a plan and say, they won't deviate from it...no stanley cup for a few years yet.... YEGCanuck
Not sure this group has what it takes to win a playoff series. When they are on their game they can beat anyone, however that can be said of any team in the playoffs. I am just not convinced the current team has players that have the necessary compete to take their play to another level under intense pressure when games mean so much. Hope I am wrong and we will find out very soon as the boys fight for a spot in the second season.

-DLC-
I believe the thinking is one step at a time....making the playoffs has to be the goal before looking beyond that. Because if they get ahead of themselves, they won't have to worry about any of it. Have seen that play out. So you don't even think about what you'll do in the playoffs until you're guaranteed to be there. But yes, a team that wants to last has to bring battle mode every second or it'll just fly by. No room for coasting or it'll quickly all become an afterthought and hindsight. You're putting the horse in front of the cart if you're looking at the cup....get there, first, then focus on the ultimate prize. And every team's goal is the cup but if you place yourself there before you're actually there, you won't get there. If that makes any sense at all. The better east teams can just coast all season against the worst east teams. Could be an advantage. But I think the best teams of the west are still better.
