We HAVE TO draft this kid at the 2015 draft

Recommended Posts

TRAVIS KONECNY.

This guy reminds me of Patrick Kane so much...

At our draft position, which is likely to be around 20, this guy will most likely be available. He dropped from the top 10 and has very high skill level much like Hunter Shinkaruk and around the same size. Unfortunately, his points haven't improved much from last year but he could be having a tough year like Jared McCann.

He's also Bo Horvat's cousin, so having Konecny on the same team would be more positive to team chemistry.

Imagine a Canucks lineup with Konecny, Horvat, McCann, and Cassels down the middle in the future. Skilled top line centre with 3 two-way forwards down the middle.

Here's some highlights:

3:00 mark you can see some sick dangles which reminds me of Patrick Kane, and he has a similar elusiveness as Kane too.

Since Benning is planning to get more draft picks at this year's draft, I hope we can get 2 late first rounders and take Konecny with one of them. If we only have 1 first rounder, I would still take this kid.

Slightly small, which is a bit concerning. On top of that, we actually have good forward prospects right now (for once), so it may be a good idea to risk taking a d-man.

Looks a lot like Jordan Schroeder; small and talented. I'd rather draft a big d-man.

I believe we are going to take the BPA at our position, and out of the mid to late first round rankings, Konecny has the highest skill level. We might have a log jam down the middle for now but you never know if Cassels, Gaunce, or McCann will turn out to be regular NHL centers.

The only defenseman we should draft from the first round is Oliver Kylington. If you watch some of his highlights, he is extremely good at slipping to the slot from the point during PP and is a very mobile puck mover. Really good with carrying the puck with quick/hard shot. Future PP pairing with Subban?

However, Kylington will be gone by the mid 10s in the draft. In the tiny chance that he slides down and both Konecny and Kylington are available, then I would take the defenseman.

Otherwise, skill > size. Some players make it to the NHL, some won't. It's about how they can adjust to the NHL while using their skill and being elusive. Some NHL examples are Pacioretty, Schwartz, Tatar, Kane, Eberle, etc...
