Michael Ferland and The Flames

I was wondering why the Sedins out of everyone where not really being hit or touched as much as the rest of the Canucks, was almost considering Burke had something about it, then I read this today.

Flames' Ferland's mother told him not to hit the Sedins

The 22-year-old played 12:10 and threw a whopping nine hits, and picked up five minutes for fighting after dropping the gloves with Kevin Bieksa late in the third period of what's been a very chippy series.

After the game, Ferland revealed he had specific instructions from his mother about what he could and couldn't do on the ice:

#Flames Michael Ferland’s mom told him not to hit the Sedins. “She told me, 'Leave the Sedins alone.' She loves them,” he said.

IMO, the opportunity presented itself, it had to be done, it was done...end of story.

Or perhaps this would be better. "Excuse me Mr. Ferland, I know you have been running around with reckless abandon on my teammates and I hate to take any of your time away from that, but when you get a moment, would you mind moving to center ice and removing your gloves, so we can engage physically?"

Just stop it.

This... Don't give a crap about what Bieksa should have done. He nailed him and let him know that the would be more where they were coming from. Time to let him look over his shoulder.

after game 3, its probably game on for them as canucks targetted calgary best players last game..

Has anyone read the "War of Words" on the front page of canucks.com?

I see that Derek Jory decided to post a picture of Sbisa going headfirst into the boards with Ferland right behind him with the writing "I think uhhhh.... he's pretty irrelevant so far. - Kevin Bieksa"

Then I read his garbage, and he goes on to mention he showed the picture to both Bieksa and Sbisa, and noted they had no comment.

Are you kidding me? These reporters are absolutely terrible, not professional at all!

Somehow I don't think Bieksa laying him out is gonna cause him to look over his shoulder. Unless Bieksa plans on cheap shotting him as he skates down the ice (which he won't because it's not his style) Ferland doesn't have to worry about fighting if he doesn't want to. Hits on the other hand do cause you to look over your shoulder and Ferland is doing a good job at forcing the Canucks D to make mistakes. It's unfortunate we don't have someone delivering as many hits as Ferland is. As much as Kassian gets hated on it would be interesting to see him in this series.

I doubt that's why. Still, hopefully the Sedins get more ice time next game and help get the Canucks the win (Willie said you win with your leaders).

This is such a crock...He was pinning Bieksa up against the boards. So yeah, he should have expected it.

He wasn't mentally beaten...that's your spin. This is what Bieksa does...it's not Ferland "beating" him. Bieksa gets pissed at times and well this is how it goes down. Some of you are WAY too high on Ferland.

And Ferland was a non-willing combatant? Since when? Every single games he's been throwing his weight around...but he doesn't want to go? Mixed messages...kid better get it straight. Bieksa simply helped with that. And I loved every second of it.

I loved what Bieksa did but you are so bias! Take off the homer goggles once in a while.

Bieksa just mauled him. Ferlund got under his skin and rattled juicy. I would say Bieksa actually gave them more motivation.

Here's hoping Bieksa and Sbisa bounce back.

So basically, despite all the bickering, the fact of the matter is Michael Ferland is truly getting under the Canucks skin and it's starting to affect them on and off the ice. These are the kind of players the Canucks have so desparately needed over the years. Someone to get in the heads of the opposing team and reek havoc. Too bad the Canucks waited till the game was out of reach to retaliate and finally snap. Hopefully they have an answer for this, either by getting revenge on the scoreboard or not letting players like Ferland and Bollig affect them to the point it causes the Canucks to differ from their style of play

I'm just stating what Bieksa did was his exact definition of "dum-dums".

Whatever. What Bieksa said there was that if you play that kind of game, be prepared to answer the bell and don't expect him to wait for an RSVP on the invitation.

There's nothing 'dum dums' about it. Bieksa wasn't running around for periods on the edge of losing control, charging, hitting from behind. pushing it. Hey, that's Ferland's role - sobeit - but what Bieksa did is draw a line - on the other side of him.

I don't care what NHLer you're talking about - he may only weigh in at 198, but when Bieksa boils over, he's as dangerous as anyone. Ferland may have 25+lbs on Bieksa, but I don't like Ferland's chances. You probably don't want to take getting in his kitchen too lightly. It's pushback - it's what grit players do. Your attempt to define etiquette in that context sounds a bit silly tbh.

Anyhow. the Canucks aren't shrinking violets. They can handle the candles.

This has the makings of a great series with two well matched teams, getting in each other's faces.

I don't know if it is because you are a woman (hence less experienced in fight) or you are just being ignorant, but when you jump a guy and start punching him while he has 0 intention of fighting, and this case, is still holding his stick... that is called "jumping" and "sucker punching".

OK, this crap, right here....this is called sexism, don't do it. I mean it.

Unless, of course, you're volunteering to be my first fight. I fight dirty, I warn you. I'm slightly crazy. ;)

"He has zero intention of fighting"...give it a rest, you're reaching. He threw himself around at guys all night...perhaps if he has no intention of fighting he shouldn't send mixed messages then. As you're doing. If you launch yourself at guys all night, taking some of them out, you may have to fight. The time to think of that is before, not after. So if he's "getting into the head of", etc., it means he's agitating. And that often leads to a fight. Only someone ignorant would fail to make the connection there. And probably get beat up a lot.

I think you're trolling and trying to incite a reaction but you're not really doing anything except being an ass.

At least when Bieksa calls names, he's willing to back it up. Not sitting behind a keyboard taunting women (see? I can play that game too).

Just laughing at some of the comments here claiming that poor Ferldumb was inappropriately jumped.

Ferclown has been trash talking and chirping for the whole series. Hes been going at it with guys like Bieksa for the whole series. They are both constantly threatening each other.

So at the end of the game dumb dumb finds himself in the corner with Bieksa, the game is out of hand and they get tied up. Do some of you actually think he had no clue what was coming?

That would be the last guy I would feel sorry for. When you make your living trying to flatten guys, and you play on the edge, and you chirp, threaten and trash talk, you better be prepared to pay the piper.

This guy ran our goalie, hes taken runs at every one of our D men, hes been on the edge of administering hits that can put players out of the series (Sbisa) and some guys in here are worried about honour? what a joke. Maybe they should meet him at high noon, take off all of their equipment, read an edict and then announce that they are going to fight so they dont hurt his feelings. What a friggen joke...
