Anyone watched Masterchef USA?

Recommended Posts

I think the show is most likely rigged. However, the show itself is entertaining enough due to its food. Come on, its food pornography. I couldn't have cared less about the drama within and i wished it was deleted. Overall, it felt like Hell's Kitchen lite version to me.

Anyways, anyone has watched the show and think....hmmm...maybe i can make that, its not that hard to make and it looks delicious to me. For example, Luca Manfe's dessert looks very delicious and seems very easy to make. Has anyone actually create Panna Cotta with basil and tomato sauce before?

Here is a pic of the panna cotta

Canadian versions are honestly low-quality rip-off's of the American versions of things.

I like the intensity that Gordon, Graham and Joe (until last season) brought to the American version, since you could see them really stare contestants down but the anger didn't have to bubble over. The blue-haired guy in M.C.C., on the other hand, yells too easily and I'd much prefer the American guys.

The point of Master Chef is to take home cooks and have them challenge themselves to new levels where they've never gone before in their culinary skills. It forces them to be more creative and think outside of the box while enhancing their cooking skills. As the season's gone on, the cooks have become better and are more finessed but that's because Gordon, Graham, and Joe were having higher and bigger expectations for those who applied.

Also, the contestants are gone from their homes for months and that's because in large part, they themselves teach the home cooks how to create these dishes or what skills and techniques they can learn to implement in their own cooking skills that Gordon, Graham and Joe pass on. That's why when they do their exit interviews, they say they've learned so much because they are actually taught things that they've never learned before. You just don't see it. I know in the Australian Master Chef version, the seasons are lengthy and the episodes are abundant but that's because they show the judges teaching the home cooks different sets of skills and dishes and etc as an episode.

I too think it's rigged. The blind lady winning it one year, Luca coming out of nowhere (although I wanted him to win the entire season) also seemed weird. I don't see it as a Hell's Kitchen lite, especially since Gordon gets to act natural in MC (he's gone on record saying that he has to act like a maniac because that's what gets ratings in the US, and much prefers his HK in the UK).

I've actually stopped watching all of those food competitions.

Anyone tried Basil panna cotta with tomato sauce? Just like Luca did in his mastechef winning dessert in season 4?

Starting to think you created this thread to see if anyone has made Basil Panna Cotta. You know, just like Luca did in Masterchef season 4.

I watched the American version quite a bit and enjoyed it. Never seen the Canadian version.

I have to say that I started watching MC Jr. on a whim, when they were down to about 10 kids and was blown away. Those 10 year olds were turning out stuff that could easily have compared to the adult show.

(Was really happy to see the hippy kid beat the cocky fat kid in the finale :) )

All "reality" shows are rigged to a certain extent. Some a lot more than others.

The American one is fun to watch, but like everyone else has mentioned...the Canadian one is unbearable.

I felt that the last season had probably the most impressive top 3 I can remember. Those Elizabeth and Courtney probably made less than 3 mistakes combined the entire season. Leslie wasn't quite as good, but still put incredible dishes out.

And yeah...Masterchef Junior is insane. I watched the season where Alexander one (2nd?) and it made me feel pretty bad about my cooking skills.

Christine was good, and so was Luca. If anything couldn't you just see her win as an inspirational story? Maybe the woman has the talent and palate to make those quality dishes?

Yeah she was amazing. So was Alexander, heh not worth it to compare with these guys :P

Hmm really? Never realized that, but good to have another cooking show to watch and learn from!

During Gordon Ramsey's AMA today on reddit he mentioned that they show the kids in MCJunior the techniques needed to make dishes (especially those fancy ones). He said that they may teach them 2-3 weeks before the challenge pertaining to that technique and they may switch up the challenge a bit to really test them.

Yeah that makes sense. There's no way they just know some of the specialized techniques. I've heard that some of them got some acting classes as well.
