Tensions boil over in Royals-White Sox fracas

CHICAGO -- Bad blood between the White Sox and Royals that has simmered since the start of the season boiled over again on Thursday night during a benches-clearing incident at U.S. Cellular Field.

The fracas began at the close of the seventh inning when Adam Eatongrounded the ball back to Royals starter Yordano Ventura. Ventura made the play and then held the ball toward Eaton and appeared to yell something at him before throwing to first for the final out of the inning. Eaton took exception to the words and both benches cleared as the two exchanged words.

Outfielder Lorenzo Cain, pitcher Edinson Volquez and Ventura were ejected for the Royals, while pitchers Jeff Samardzija and Chris Sale were ejected for the White Sox.

Earlier in the game, Ventura hit Jose Abreu with a pitch leading off the fourth and Sale hit Mike Moustakas with two outs in the fifth.

I love how baseball players always clear the dugout and bull pens but if a single hockey player leaves his bench he gets like a 10 game suspension. Waddup wit dat?

If a batter goes after the pitcher he's in a situation where is 1 on 9 so the benches clear to even up the odds. Hockey typically has the same number of players on the ice.
