Anyone download the windows 10 free download?

Recommended Posts

it says internet services fee may apply, what's this mean? Is their like hidden fee's or something anyone know?

For those who don't know its in your toolbar.

That has to do with your data usage.

So if the 3GB download is going to put you over your data cap, Microsoft isn't responsible for the fee you may get from your ISP

And it's not actually out yet. You're just...Pre-registering or something

Oh thanks, did you download it though?

No. It's not out yet.

Everyone that has Windows 7 or Windows 8 is eligible for the Windows 10 upgrade for free for the first year

At the risk of taking the bait, it's free forever if you "sign up" in the first year.

If you don't take advantage of the free upgrade offer, you get to pay $129 or $199 for home or pro like normal.

Basically if you want to be the guinea pig for Windows 10, fly at er. Me, I'll probably consider it about Day 300, waffle a bit, then right when it's at like 350 or 360 probably do it. Maybe.

That's what I'm thinking too.

Not a chance it launches without a ton of problems

Don't do the upgrade. It's a bad idea. Never proper to put a windows operating system through that process. If you want windows 10, then buy it and install it properly. Otherwise your just going to get a ton of weird registry problems and a whole bunch of crap. Anytime you ever want to reload your pc you will have to load windows 7 or 8 and then reinstall your upgrade ect. It's just a bad idea.

This is such a load of FUD today....

Sure, back in the Windows '95 era, there were issues doing upgrades.

Makes no difference now....sure...it's a bit cleaner - but as soon as you load all your crap - it will be the same....

As far as "reloading" All you need to do is keep your Win 7/8 DVD - it will prompt you to enter the DVD without having to actually install it...but this does bring up a good question, say you do the "free" upgrade....then 1 year and a day later, you need to reload your OS - will your "free" upgrade work or will it say it's expired?

You are mistaken. I see tons of pc's all the time that have done the windows 7 to windows 8 "upgrades" that are totally screwed by weird problems that are solely due to the upgrade.

Also you won't be able to simply reload a windows 7 pc with a windows 10 upgrade with windows 10. You will be forced to reload windows 7 and then install the upgrade to Windows 10. The licence keys are bonded to upgrade only. Won't be valid for a clean windows 10 install. It's the same way with windows 8 pc's that have upgraded from windows 7.

As for your last point I think it will depend on the machine. People with a newer pc that has a UEFI license key probably will have no problems because the key will likely be re registered, vs people who do not, probably won't be able to use it properly after a year and a day.

I googled a hack for that that worked just fine. Had to change a registry setting if I recall and *poof* clean W8 install.

"Upgraded" from a pirated copy of W7 no less

I was wiping my disks and reinstalling my OS a lot back when I was into overclocking. win 98 era and everything from win 3.1 on was an upgrade and I had to install like 3 previous version disks to get it to reinstall each time. Annoying.
