Outsiders
I’m sure the Boston Bruins would match no matter what, but it’s interesting to hear rumblings of teams contemplating the idea of an offer sheet for restricted free agent Dougie Hamilton. We haven’t seen a whole lot of offer sheets the past few years, but the idea here is that the Bruins are right up against the cap and are vulnerable to it. It’s believed that Edmonton Oilers general manager (and former Bruins GM) Peter Chiarelli is in fact tossing around the idea internally. How much fun would that be? But seriously, the Oilers are in need of help on the blue line so it would make sense. Thing is, I doubt they’re the only team thinking of doing it. BI3KSA-
Wouldnt be worth it from an Edmonton stand point IMO. Dougie is really good, but the Oilers are still going to be a bottom ten team for the next 2 years probably. Those are high end picks theyd be giving up. Add to that the BMness of it and the effect it has on other GMs and its just not worth IMO.
Tom Sestito
Would be worth it for the oilers. They have the prospects and young nhl players to afford those picks being lost. Dougie is a top pairing defenseman already. Our team is destined to be a 7 seed at best, probably worse. So it's not worth it for us.
thad
Be hilarious if the oilers screwed up the numbers and accidentally coughed up mcdavid in compensation haha
TheRussianRocket.
Think we will see a handful more offer sheets than in years past. With so many teams handicapped, there really isn't a reason why you shouldn't do it besides being a total dick

Swedish elite3
Absolutely if you have cap space I see no reason not to do it. I for one wish we could clear cap space and make a play on someone in the high class RFA market this year

Gstank29
Not worth it for us but Tampa, Philly, Dallas, Columbus, Edmonton, might be thinking about it
Canorth
They would have drafted in already. Impossible. You would think so...but when a team waits for a player to clear waivers before they trade for that same player...the possibilities are endless

Obviously did that because of the contract limit Plus, another GM is in charge now
Warhippy
Ridiculous scenario Edmonton makes a trade into the top 5 and drafts Hanifin or Prorov to go with McDavid. Edmonton then offer sheets Hamilton at $5.75 million AAV 5 year term. Edmonton then signs McQuaid to a 4 million deal. Brings Nurse Draisatl and Musil into the line up What does Edmontons year look like???

Odd.
Oilers should try and get Dougie Hamilton to enhance their crappy d.
Nuxfanabroad
Boston should dangle Hamilton(& small piece) to Ariz for their pick. They're dying for local boy, Hanifin..& this solves the cap scenario.
Bissurnette
It would make a lot of sense for the Oilers. If they offer him 5.4 shmill they'd only have to give a 1st and a 3rd for a top pairing Dman
Jiggs50
I would give up a 1st and 3rd for him anyday. Teams should do it.
Tom Sestito
Bruins would trade to match at 5.4. It's a good contract.
