DBronco
Burrows is too big of a cap hit. At 4 million per year, he does not live up to it at all. He needs to be traded for a 1st round pick somewhere around the 14-25 range. If we trade him away we can sign players like mike santorelli. Along with the cap freed up from the lack or maelstrom trade we can sign a good 2nd or 3rd liner.

goalie13
If, as you say, he isn't worth the $4M, why would anyone give up a first round pick for him?

SaintPatrick33
Burrows is the most versatile of any of our old guys, and seems to still be able to spark the team. His value is not in points/goals but as a sparkplug type player. I would get rid of higgins, edler, Bieksa, Hamuis before Burrows.
Watermelons
After seeing how our team lacked passion, energy and just about everything we needed to win without Burrows in the Calgary series I don't know why people still want to trade him. Sorry but the Canucks aren't going to be serious contenders any time soon and won't be needing the $4.5 million cap space. I personally think that Burrows is worth every penny of that $4.5 million but that's a story for another day. I'd definitely prefer us to keep him so he can teach our young players how to play with fire and passion.
DBronco
All good points. I agree that guys like Higgins and bieksa need to go. Just because burrows is over 30 doesn't make him a good leader and mentor. He was diving and mouthing off to other players and refs all the time. I don't think that's how we want horvat or virtanen to turn out.

With a lot more offensive upside

I honestly believe with Burrows and Kassian we would have taken that series… But that's another story for another day. But yes I agree. Burrows provides so much versatility. After Kesler, we don't really have a go to guy that we can plug into any situation. Burrows is the closest thing we have to that. He's speedy, slick, physical, good on one on one battles, fantastic at net front presence, (he may honestly be better than Kassian and the best on the team) Best PKer, spark plug, hustle machine with crazy high motor, can play left or right side anywhere in the top 9, and is, at least I would argue, the easiest player to play with on the team. He seems to find chemistry with any line he plays with, special teams or not. Burrows does not provide the offensive output of a 4 million dollar player, but he provides so much more. Remember how our power play was going through a serious drought, we plug Burrows in to be net front presence and all of a sudden 2 goals first game as well as the PP back on track. We needed to spread the talent in the lineup and put Vrbata on the second line. Burrows hops in with the Sedins no problem. Burrows has even played Center for lines at times. I got you that he's expensive and getting older. If we can find a good trade partner, alright. But the man is the definition of versatility, and honestly, excluding all all stars, is definitely one of the most versatile in the league. If we can get a first rounder, ok, deal. But a third or 4th idk
