Where do you rank our Top 3 Dmen

Watching Chicago win the cup w. 4 Dmen makes me wonder how far off our Dcore is from competing.

Where would you rank our top 3 Dmen as a group.

Elder

Tanev

Hamhuis

I think that is still a really solid top 3 and I'd rank them In the top 10 for sure. The good news for the Nux is its much much easier to fix the bottom 3 than it is to assemble a top 3

Where do the Canucks rank ?

1.Nashville ( Weber, Josi, Jones )

2. Chicago ( Keith , Seabrook, Hjlmarsson)

3. NYR ( McDonough, Girrardi, Staal )

4. CGY. ( Giordano, Brodie. Russel )

30. ( Schultz , Ferrence, Nikytin)

#1 guys don't get traded.

We will do what we've always done and that's defence by committee.

Where does our Top 3 rank ?

Top-20 and trending downward due to age, injuries and players leaving, and Tanev's improvement not countering that decline.

Maybe not having a #1 has been a main reason why we haven't won a cup yet. Maybe it's time to change the 'defence by committee' approach if we have watched other teams win with #1's. But you're right, they don't get traded. So maybe we should use the draft.

I think these teams all have pretty nice top 3's as well:

Anaheim (Fowler, Lindholm, Vatanen)

LA (Doughty, Muzzin, Martinez)

Minnesota (Suter, Brodin, Spurgeon)

Montreal (Subban, Markov, Petry)

NYI (Boychuk, Leddy, Hamonic)

ST Louis (Pietrangelo, Shattenkirk, Bouwmeester)

TBL (Hedman, Stralman, Garrison)

I think Van falls out of the top 10 :(

I think TOML might be right with the Top 20 & downward trajection evaluation

Wisniewski shouldn't be in Anaheims top 3 considering he got benched in the playoffs despite being healthy.

I'd put Florida and Cgy a bit higher and I'd put Detroit and Colorado out of top 15 otherwise I agree

Where does our Top 3 rank ?

Did I say we should trade for one?

Defense by committee is great if you have the personnel for it. For that, you need at least two, if not three #2 guys IMO. We don't have anything close to that in the NHL and our current prospect group is a long shot to have any of them, let alone a coupl, be #2 guys in their prime.

The D needs major work.

You said our D needs top end talent in which I replied #1 dmen don't get traded which is why we're doing Defence by committee

#2 guys IMO are still pretty "top end talent". No one said anything about trading for #1 guys but you.

And I'm telling you, we don't have the personnel, either NHL or prospect, to do "by committee" at anything resembling top 10 in the league level.

You move up in the draft to get a legit #1 Dman not hope to get one at #23. Canucks haven't had the makings since Luc Bourdon!

Edler and Tanev are #2 I would say

Tanev lacks the size, grit and/or offense to be a #2 on a good team. He thinks the game well (in his own zone), makes a nice first pass, blocks a lot of shots etc but on a good team he's a #3. On a REALLY good team, he's a #4.
