cuporbust Posted June 29, 2015 Share Posted June 29, 2015 Well he has 2 seasons behind miller to figure out the nhl. I'm. Sure he can manage it. Once he settles in he will be fine. GB5 Posted June 29, 2015 Share Posted June 29, 2015 Im hoping for the best with Markstrom, but I'm not holding my breath. He has a major hurdle to cross, which is his mental game. He just can't seem to adjust to the NHL game or the high pressure games, no denying the talent, but he still has a lot to prove. SaintPatrick33 Posted June 29, 2015 Share Posted June 29, 2015 I am surprised nobody has mentioned Markstrom in comparison to the great leaf goalie Jonas Gustavson.... a highly rated prospect who ended up flaming out in the bigs. Let us hope this is not the case. I loved the game he played versus the coyotes late in the season, he was really positionally sound and controlled his rebounds. Thank goodness we have Rollie as our goalie coach. I look forward to our future star goalie, he has a lot of Ben Bishop type qualities. KelownaCanucksFan Posted June 29, 2015 Share Posted June 29, 2015 Goalies are almost impossible to project, that being said Markstrom has worked hard to improve since he's been traded to Vancouver, and has improved his game exponentially. There is a reason that recently we have molded Schneider, Lack and probably soon Markstrom into good NHL goalies. Vancouver has a good goalie coach and he will continue to work with Jacob to turn him into the starter for next year. Markstrom is this teams future. You can either hold a grudge against him. I guess you don't really remember what happened when those trades went down....here is a little refresher.. the whole team almost got ran out of town, too much bad was happening for the fans just to pick apart 1 trade... the whole ship was sinking, as people stopped going to the games all together... I could buy lowers off a scalper for 40$ around that time. Regardless I remember being disappointed in the trade when it went down but I don't recall anyone attacking our returns. That's just one example as well, there is just so much hate in this city right now when it comes to hockey. I bet fans start chanting Lack, Lack, Lack the first bad game miller or markstrom play. Like the hodgons lovers do with kassian or you can get behind your teams players and support them It's easy to 'get behind' Markstrom....all you need is a front row seat behind the Canucks bench, where Markstrom will most likely be sitting most of the season. I have no qualms with Markstrom...but Benning has made it clear that this is Ryan Miller's team. That has been the problem since his signing. Benning has also gone on record saying he would consider giving Miller an extension if things go well, so if anyone is a 'boytoy' it's Miller.
