What if Bennings plan was always to tank next season?

Putting in young guys like Corrado and Clendening and forcing an average D-man like Sbisa into the top 4. Reyling on youth to provide our secondary scoring. And having a declining Miller and an unproven backup.

Maybe Benning knows this team will suck, and is okay with it.

Benning has said all along that as younger players are ready to play on the Canucks, that room will be made for them. The Bieksa move is exactly such a case and the Sbisa signing was preparing for it. Corrado and Clendening are ready. Benning has said that in so many words.

As certain vets get moved out and younger players transition into more important roles, we must take a leap of faith that the team will continue to play well. There is always the risk that in the short term, the team will be worse.

Get used to the feeling.

Matthias out, Baertschi in

Bieksa out, Clendening in

Lack out, Markstrom in

will there be more?

What part of couldn't get a 2015 2nd for him indicates that they could get Rychel?

I think you're setting yourself up for disappointment with those kind of expectations.

That was when he was only willing to waive for one team.

If he expands his list to include more teams, the value goes up. Columbus wants a D-man alot more than San Jose did.

Been waiting for someone to say this! I think you nailed it.

I agree Benning is doing what he can and what he was left with and many don't seem to see that.We might not make the playoffs but we will be fighting for the 6th to 8th spot.A Bieksa trade might include another young D man like Clendening last year plus a 3rd or so!

I'm getting really tired at our Vancouver fans being so disrespectful to JB and Linden..

EDIT: Not you guys

It's gotten out of hand, I am embarrassed as a Canucks fan because of these idiots. Bieksa has to go and the reason for it is his play, his contract would be great if he played like 2010 Bieksa...... But its 2015 and he is slow and no longer the physically dominate dman he once was, while taking up 4.63 of cap space (which could be used for Franson) We need to start moving assets that no longer are playing up to their contract but have some value (2nd pick next year is good value for Bieksa) We have done this for years rather than trade them to get some value back we just let the contract expire and them walk away while getting nothing.

If Murray hadn't done his brother a favour and Wilson hadn't screwed around, the Canucks would have grabbed two more quality prospects at 31 and 39 -- almost certainly at least one of which would have been a D from amongst those we werew all anticipating. TL and JB certainly had a dejected look about them the entire weekend.

Things would have looked a whole lot better, and clowns like Gallagher wouldn't have ammo to unload his banal whining all over management yet again.

If SJ wanted Roy (as mentioned earlier in this thread) then perhaps this was a reason the deal fell through. So, if SJ is still interested in Bieksa perhaps the Canucks could ask for Julius Bergman and another prospect or a 2016 4th(?).

regards,

G.

They understand the pressures that come with operating a hockey business in a Canadian marketplace, and they will meet those challenges head-on, with bravery and class.

The paying fans are entitled to their opinions on the team and in actuality it is all welcome as it adds to the entertainment aspect of the product being delivered by the company. If the fans stop complaining, being disrespectful etc., it means they have stopped caring, and that means a decline in interest and loss of revenue. Sure, this fanbase as rabid as it is will never have it's interest in hockey decline as much as it would in any southern american market, and hockey is the only major sport in this province, but the threat of having the fans no longer care about the product is nevertheless treated as a real one.

Yes if they still want Bieksa then give us a 2nd next year and prospect or 3rd and high end prospect!

I think if the Canucks could land a 2016 2nd for Bieksa they should take it and run. More value is added in the cap space made available.

The Canucks are not getting a Kerby Rychel or high end prospect out of it.

Bieksa leaving would be a huge loss that many don't get. Hell we already have a soft soccer player team mentality I couldn't imagine how we'd get walked over if our biggest warrior was gone! It would be tough to watch and sickening. This guy has been a devoted warrior for this team for years and in most games the only guy who stands up like a man and doesn't run scared like most of our players.

I've watched all the games for years and don't get at all how many fans see him as a guy we should get rid of for next to nothing it's down right foolish. Bieksa played hurt and is definitely still a top 4 guy that will help us tremendously and to me worth more then a 2nd rounder he's under appreciated but I guarantee all his teammates are glad he's still around.

I really hope Bieksa sticks around and proves all you want to be GM'S just how foolish you really are and again how wrong you are about almost everything.

So we should keep him because he has heart and he's physical. What happens when he is no longer able to keep up with the younger guys? He's climbing in age and he can't be the bully forever. Has he played like a top 4 dman that he's paid to be? No. Yes, he's been great for the city and yes, he is a great guy. But if anybody else played like the way Bieksa played the past couple years, they would be gone by now. It's a business. He's willing to go, and it would open up opportunities for the younger guys. We'll get a 2nd in a deep draft, and we'll open up cap space, to re-sign FAs, and it will give us flexibility to make trades.

Yes, Bieksa is a warrior, at least he tries to be one when he's not out with a long-term injury. Watching him get manhandled by Ferland in the playoffs was a little disturbing. But we have a better warrior these days, Dorsett. And if Kassian can get his s*** together, and play like a beast that he is, we'll manage. We won't be beating any teams up mind you, but times are a changing again. Now it seems, the young, agile, fast offensive players is the way to go apparently.

If the Canucks have a poor season and miss the playoffs, end up with a mid to high first round pick, then trading Bieksa for a 2nd next year to say, SJ, is a good plan. Unloading Bieksa at the right time, and getting an additional high 2nd pick sounds pretty darn good to me. I'm going to assume SJ won't have a stellar season next year. Let's say Bieksa goes to SJ and they miss the playoffs as well and finish 20th overall, the Canucks finishing 18th. Next year's draft could look something like:

1st RD - 12th overall

2nd RD - from SJ - 40th

2nd RD - 42nd

3 top-50 players in next years draft is great. A heck of a lot better than what we had this year.

Really Edler or Hamhuis haven't played to what they're getting paid and they're definitely no better all around defensemen then Bieksa and both those guys are soft as butter and can't stick up for teammates and deter opponents who are usually all stronger then the canucks from taking liberties .

Oh and as far as that clown Ferland goes he did his running around but when we were getting blown out of the game Bieksa made him pay and Ferland absolutely wanted no part of it like most.

I'm with Ward on his comments on tsn 1040 that we trade Edler out East and get some decent return for him.

Ducks defense is set, they don't need anyone and especially not a $4m Bieksa.

Juice waived for SJ because it's close to home here in Vancouver and he won't be far from his family. There's reported 10+ teams interested and so far he only gave the green light to the Sharks since there was a supposed deal in place.

Why does he want to go to SJ so bad with a mediocre team like the Canucks?

Why not join his buddy Kesler in Anahiem on a real contender?

Boom! :emot-parrot:

He understands that San Jose is only a few hours from Anaheim right?

I think he does. Maybe its a middle finger to Wilson for messing up the deal and Benning told him Anahiem not a bad place to live and he has a better chance to win there.

Kesler might have nudged Bieksa to come to SoCal instead of the Silicon Valley too.
