Why even vote? Isn't it obvious what the consensus is? Obviously everybody wants Bieksa and Higgins gone. Anybody who voted Sbisa, he's Benning's little baby boy he's gonna defend all year. What a bad trade that was.

I wish people would stop tossing Weber aside without remembering he was the Canucks defensive TOP GOAL SCORER for last season (and for a cheap contract and with less games played than most others). Who would replace those goals out of the current group? Weber needs to be here, at minimum as a 7th d-man and as a PP specialist.

He's also on a reasonable cap hit, without an NTC. (I say reasonable because D-men are going to get insane money this off season).

He can always be moved at the deadline if he doesn't progress as a defenseman.

i love both bieksa and higgins....whatever management decides is good enough for me...i leave hockey decisions to real hockey people....not opinionated fans....

Makes me wonder why you ever come around here, just to complain about fans with opinions. At least skip over the more opinionated threads because we already know your feelings on it. "Management knows all, fans know nothing rabble rabble rabble".

Voted Sbisa, Bieksa, Higgins (wouldn't mind if we kept him since he's not all that expensive but we do have young replacements), Vey/ Weber/ Stanton (if we don't re-sign them, might as well trade their rights for another prospect or something)

Could be expendable if we suck next season: Vrbata, Burr, Hammer (hope for an NHL-ready prospect + pick for each star vet)

For me, well, his $1.9m cap hit is admittedly sweet - but for a guy who is a quality 2C or at least an above average 3C.

Thing of it is, again from my view anyway, he'll be starting the season as an underwhelming 27 year old who is holding up a key offensive spot and (if he were slotted down into the bottom 9 instead) doesn't appear to be a guy who can provide above average 3C coverage.

And $1.9m is too much to pay for a 27 year old who is probably pretty close to what he'll ever become and who doesn't really fit.

Honestly, i rather keep a 27 year old making 1.9 million for the next two years than keep 30+ year olds making north of 2 million.

Bonino can play both sides of the ice (although he's not consistent on the offensive side). But as a 3rd line C, he's still very valuable to the team... Until our prospects can transition to the NHL.

I don't think any prospects are ready to take over Bonino's service yet. We don't have C's that are all Horvat.

Because if you play Centre in the NHL, you should be able to win a faceoff. Also, he has no speed and is not suited for a scoring role, which for some reason he is put in a position in on this team. He also isnt physical enough for the 3rd or 4th lines. He has a good cap hit, but I would rather see a prospect take his place.

I would say get rid of Sbisa, but my guess is that even if we put him on waivers, nobody would claim this guy.

Get rid of Weber as well, he is another waiver wire guy preventing us from bringing up a young defencemen.

Which prospect do we have that can take over Bonino's spot and play better at it this upcomming season?

I hear ya, and entirely agree. That's why even though Burrows and Bieksa are on the top of my fav list, I still gotta suck it up that their departure would open up both roster and cap space.

As for Bonino, same applies. Nuttin' against the guy either, it's just that even for just $1.9m he's a gap filler in the top 6 and easily replaceable for what he brings to the bottom 6. So, for a team that needs roster space to fit in, say, some off-season UFA acquired blood, he'd make my list to be expendable.

I guess that's where I'm at really - really like a slew of the guys on the roster, but it's as if the team now has 1 first line and 3 lines of gap fillers. Sure, Bonino, Higgins, Burrows, etc. can all put up marginal top 6 numbers if given enough ice time and opportunity, but none of them are likely to overwhelm - and if the Canucks are ever gonna return to truly competitive form, they need more overwhelming guys than merely serviceable ones.

In my opinion, anyway.

Horvat should be ready to take the 2C spot from Bonino, he can win draws, skate and provide some offensive punch. That leaves 3c and 4c. The third line can be taken by B Rich, if he is resigned, and the 4th can go to any of the Utica guys, like grenier, gaunce.

Yeah i love Burrows and Bieksa. They bleed blue and green and i can never imagine them in another jersey. But it's time to move on.

I always felt Bonino as a gap until our prospects are ready. That's why i think he's too valuable to the team; cheap contract, servable center that can play both sides of the ice, still only 27.

And i agree with the bolded. IMO, we won't be a cup contending team until we have players that can replace the Sedins as our best players.

Sedin - Sedin - Burrows

Baertschi - Horvat - Vrbata

Higgins - Bonino - kassian

Dorsett - Cassels - Virtanen/kenins

Edler Tanev

Hamhuis Clendening

Sbisa Corrado

Good effort given the names available. But ugh to be a contender.

It's really just same old with sophomore Horvat and small Baer taking a more prominent offensive role ,while not particularly defensively gifted Bonino and Kassian try to pull off some traditional shut-down duty, and a couple prospects/rookies are plugged in for 4th line minutes.

Gawd I want to see some fresh UFA blood into this mix!

ps: really shocking that someone would actually have voted Horvat as a guy to move, musta been a mouse issue...
