The Canucks will open their prospects development camp this weekend without one of the organizations most trusted and familiar mainstays. Along with gutting their front office, the Canucks have also let go Mike Burnstein, their 20-year head trainer, the team has confirmed. This one is going to gut many players who have bonded strongly with Burnie over the years. Among the non-players, there are not many people the Canucks work with more closely than Burnstein. And there are not many people with a better disposition and understanding of the game than Burnie, who is warm, funny and smart as hell. He is one of the best people you will ever meet in hockey. He worked with more than 200 players, eight head coaches and several re-imaginations of the Canucks dressing room. Jon Sanderson will absorb some of Burnsteins responsibilities while the Canucks are expanding Rick Celebrinis role. The renowned physiotherapist will manage the Canucks training and medical staff. Having Celebrini around more will be considered a significant advantage for the organization. Celebrini is expected to travel with the team, though not on every road trip. Burnstein spent nearly 1600 games with the Canucks and hes developed great friendships with some of the Canucks players over the years. He was also the trainer for Team Canada at the 2010 Olympics http://blogs.theprovince.com/2015/07/03/canucks-let-go-20-year-trainer/

Celebrini is world renowned so to get him full time is a real coup for the organization. But firing a 20-year employee like Burnstein leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Agreed,,shocker actually...isnt Celebrini a good buddy of Trevor?

This is definietly the work of the Aquillinis preparing for taking a loss in revenue this year

i have no doubt that trimming the fat is a big part of the last 2 days, but moving out the old is generally a good idea before you bring in the new.

this team needs to move forward. it sucks, but it's life.

it's hard not to be complacent when you've had the same job for 20 years.
