Andrei Kostitsyn give him a shot

Recommended Posts

JB should be looking at Anbdrei Kostitsyn he would be a good fit on any line good +/- and can get him cheap over 40 points a season the guy should get a second chance every one makes mistakes sign him to one year with the option of two more

Just what the Canucks need...a floating eastern European 30 year old who would rather party than play hard for his teammates. Didn't Jimmy B. just dump one of those type of players? If I were JB, I wouldn't even sign this euro-trash for a two way deal that pays NHL and AHL minimums.

Whether we like Andrei Kostitsyn or not we need another left winger we have two veterans in Daniel Sedien and Burrows and two rookie left wingers R Kenins and S Baerschi and we still need to sign 6 players 5 RFAs and 1 UFA and only have 4.2 mill in cap space so i think JB still has to move out one more Veteran player to keep his younger guys. The most likely place to move a player is on D that would free up space to sign the UFA and maybe get some young guys for the farm team or a hi first round or second rounder but the other GM,s know what JB has to deal with so there giving him nothing in return. We only have so much money to deal with and we can’t afford another top liner and JB needs to make the playoffs and give the youth movement time to get better and to get at least the first or second round of the playoffs that will give the younger guys some experience and improve. Andrei Kostitsyn may not be the best choice but he comes at a price we can afford we help him in return he helps us be a better team and we all know how Vancouver has taken troubled players into the fold and made them better people and players

He will destroy that room chemistry faster than you can say Kesler.

"Whether we like Andrei Kostitsyn or not we need another left winger we have two veterans in Daniel Sedien and Burrows and two rookie left wingers R Kenins and S Baerschi "

Higgins and Prust are two more veteran left wingers already signed for this coming season. That makes Daniel S, Higgins, Prust, Baertschi and Kenins=5 left wingers. Burrows and Hansen can also play LW, as can Virtanen, Gaunce and Shinkaruk. By the way, Kenins will not be classified as an NHL rookie this season as he played more than 25 NHL games in 2014-15.

"we still need to sign 6 players 5 RFAs and 1 UFA and only have 4.2 mill in cap space so i think JB still has to move out one more Veteran player to keep his younger guys."

The hockeyscap figure of $4.2 million is misleading. Hockeyscap has included three goalies. If one takes out Bachman, then they have about $4.8 mill in cap space.

While they have unsigned players, the cap is for the NHL roster, typically 23 players. Canucks have their two goalies plus 6 defencemen under contract (Edler, Hamhuis, Tanev, Sbisa, Bartkowski, Weber) plus 11 forwards. To get to 23 they need 4 more players signed, presumably 2 forwards and 2 defencemen. Baertschi, Clendening and Corrado are almost certain to take up 3 of those spots, leaving one more forward spot to be included in that almost $4.8 million.

The number of total free agents left to sign is irrelevant to the extent that, to oversimplify, only those on the NHL roster will count against the cap. Players like , unless someone with a salary over $900K ends up in Utica. (Luongo's retained salary of $800K also counts and if the Canucks didn't allocate Horvat's performance bonuses for this past season to 2014-15 there could be some bonus money to be added, but I suspect Horvat's performance bonuses for 2014-15 will have been counted in that season as there was room.

I'm not sure what UFA you're counting as needing to be re-signed. Pretty clearly the Canucks aren't planning to sign Matthias, Sestito or Stanton, they probably aren't going to sign McMillan and even if they were to re-sign them, Zalewski, Archibald and DeFazio would be in Utica, not Vancouver. Acton and Andersson have already signed in Europe.

I would say for a bargain basement price Andrei Kostitsyn would definitely give you a 1 - 2 punch on offence with him on second line and Vrbata strictly on first with Sedins this season. He is more mature Than when with the preds and would definitely want it more. Worth the one year deal.

And where would Burrows go?

Why on god's green earth would Kostitsyn leave the KHL for a bargain bin one year deal? You do realize why he left the NHL, right?

And where would Burrows go?

Burrows works well on special teams killing penalties. He could definitely add a scoring touch to the 3rd line while developing the defensive game he knows so well even more. The team needs a shut down line. The game is not all about offence.
