They lost to a French team... must have had Witt in net.

Joe Cannata was in net.

Shinkaruk-Vey-Grenier

Gaunce-Jones-Jensen

Kenins-Cassels-Friesen

Bancks-Hamilton-Zalewski

(Fox, Blomstrand, Valk, Labate, Stewart)

Pedan-Biega

Fedun-Subban

McEneny-Corrado

(Cederholm, Sautner, Ehrhardt, Negrin)

Bachman

Cannata

(Witt)

If all three guys can make it down to Utica, that's suddenly a pretty damn good looking roster. That top six in particular has the potential to be dangerous if Shinkaruk and Gaunce can take steps forward and get into the 20-goal range. Defense looks a lot better with four vets to mentor all the rookies, plus there's a bit of familiarity there with Corrado and McEneny who played together in junior.

After his training camp, Gaunce looks poised for 20+ to me, plus in his playoffs last year he paced for 16, not too far a leap. Shink scored 16 last year and should take a lot of DeFazio/Baertschi's TOI over. Should also be on the 1st PP with Vey, so that's promising.

I'm predicting, over a full 80-game season, Gaunce scores/paces for 19-21 and Shink scores/paces for 23-26.

I'm actually kind of happy the home team won. Must have been nice for the fans and helped promote hockey over there a bit

Interesting enough, that French team featured beloved ex-Canucks such as Jason Krog, Patrick Coulombe and Dany Sabourin.

Yeah, I found that very strange...sudden influx of players in this French league.

Krog has 9 points in 3 games, Coulumbe is the team's captain, in his 2nd year there and has 4 points in 3 games..finished last year with 23 points in 24 games.

Guess hockey is getting more competitive in France? Kinda cool.

That's an interesting mix of former players.

I'm surprised Coulombe is still playing hockey, he's a name I have not heard in a really long time haha.

If Vey can take steps forwards if he doesn't get claimed then he would be a big offensive boost for Utica.

Time in the AHL could benefit him as well especially with our coaches down there.

It would be pretty big for Utica's offense with Baertschi stepping into the NHL, and Cal O'Reilly (and Cory Conacher to a lesser extent) having left.

If Vey makes it down and Virtanen or McCann only get 9 games the Vey will make his heroic return back to Vancouver.
