Damn, feel bad for Subban. 3 defenceman with mumps and doesn't even get called up.

Now is a good time to see what he can do in the NHL level. Give him a shot.

He might still get called up this weekend...

If Canucks had a legit middle of the pack offense I would be of the same mind set. We are really not good at scoring though. Hence why everyone wants to see Subban

We're about 25 goals behind league average.

Isn't McEneny producing more than Subban over the last 20 or so games?

Give the kid a decent shot, we gave Stecher a chance and he's showed everyone you don't need to be big to play well defensively. Hopefully if Subban can skate well and not get caught out of position too much his offence will keep him around, because this defence really doesn't get much offence anyway. A good D-zone passer would really help these useless forwards get the puck up the ice because that's often our biggest problem.

Mceneny has worked damn hard for everything he has achieved. He seems to be a typical example of someone who has taken in his coaches advice like a sponge and never looked back.

I say he deserves this more than Subban who is maybe only getting the message Green has been trying to drum into him now.

McEneny is also a year older.

Is it true he was called up now?

Yeah, he and Labate were called up after the Comets game. McEney and Grenier were called up before.

Doubt we see Subban play tonight but he could play the next game depending on what happens with the mumps thing.

It would be nice to see Subban play an NHL game this season.

it would be nice i agree.  Maybe they are trying to keep his value high by not playing him.  I think he has what it takes to make it in the nhl.  but they may want to keep him as a trade chip in case they get a more urgent need.  offense from d is important but the progression of stecher, Hutton, sbisa and potentially Juolevi should in theory be enough to give us a bump next season. ( if all guys are still here ).  Subban is like his brother. high offensive upside but inconsistent defensive which leads to too many uncertainties.   d men like pk Subban are enigmas and can cause nightmares for their gm or coach.  they are 2 unpredictable and d is such an important position.

I was thinking the same thing, but it did dawn on me...

They may be keeping him around to see what he does NEXT SEASON. There's a good chance that Biega, Larsen, and Sbisa are not on this team next year. After the expansion draft, Biega loses value and may very well be waived so he can spend the year in Utica being the captain again. Larsen, based on his performance this season (and the rise of Stecher and Tryamkin, among others makes him expendable). But the thing is, with the expansion draft looming, there's the very real possibility that Sbisa is exposed... and taken.

Sbisa has had his best season as a Canuck this year. Having finally been shoved down the lineup, he looks comfortable. Too comfortable. Defensemen are going to be a commodity that the Golden Knights are going to want to exploit in the summer. Sbisa doesn't have *much* trade value right now for the Canucks. But, he may actually have trade value for the Golden Knights as they look to bolster organizational depth in the early days of their franchise. This will especially true if the Canucks deal Hansen for an expansion exempt -- making the Canucks "expansion pantry" light... (Likely the pickings will be: Bachman, Biega, Gaunce, and Sbisa... and from that list, I'd be picking Sbisa every day of the week).

But yeah, Subban is one of those "one dimensional players" that fans love but coaches loathe. He's got NHL caliber offensive instincts but he still makes lots of defensive mistakes. Likely, the smartest route is for the Canucks to keep bouncing Subban up and down from Utica until he's not waiver eligible and then make the trade call at that point. His waiver ineligibility is valuable. No sense in trading him, at this point. Once he's waiver eligible and we know what the defensive corps look at that point, he'll either crack the lineup as a 7th d-man or be dealt... but that's my hunch.

Italics = sarcastic humor!

Wonder if he finally gets a crack with 3 defensemen out with suspected mumps?

Looks like he didn't get enough guys lol

You don't think that is just as applicable to Ben Hutton, though? He's not exactly a future Norris finalist, either.

You don't think there's varying degrees of defensive ability? Nobody said Hutton (or Stetcher for that matter) are going to win a Norris anytime soon. That doesn't make Subban their equal defensively. And at least Hutton has a bit more size to help out.

It will be interesting to see if he gets any games with the mumps outbreak but people should be expecting some pretty interesting adventures when he's on the ice (good and bad)... if WD doesn't staple him to the bench after his first unpredictable foray anyway

Coaches don't like unpredictable.

Again, using Hutton as the example, CDC'rs apparently have let his offensive contributions mask his limits as an actual defensively reponsible defenceman.

But, it's Subban you're worried about?
